Pass the Dijon mustard.
I popped over here because I saw Nikema Williams getting arrested on IG. Will there be a more detailed article coming?
Nice collection JS.
Feds collect more taxes: OK, so:
1. I don’t think anyone doubted that the economy could be stimulated. The question is- can it be stimulated enough to overcome the costs involved? So far the answer is obviously ‘no’. Despite the record tax collections, the government still ran a deficit of $100,491,000,000 for the month—because it spent $353,183,000,000.
2. How does this in any way look like smaller government? So far we’ve got higher taxes and higher spending. At what point is it legitimate to say we’ve been scammed?
Year over year receipts up 8 percent, outlays up 18 percent, deficit up 59 percent.
To answer your questions in 2), not at all, and when Mitch told us the tax cuts would pay for themselves.
Fun and interesting:

“Have you ever thought of the perfect quip or comeback after it didn’t matter—a minute, hour, or day after your conversation has ended?
Well, there’s a name for that phenomenon. It’s called l’esprit de l’escalier, or the spirit of the staircase, and refers to the perfect retort that arises at the wrong time.”
I will prefer to call it “The Jerk Store Conundrum”
I read the link just for its association with the term l’esprit de l’escalier that I was unfamiliar with.

154 years ago today, Atlanta was on fire. https://chamblee54.wordpress.com/2018/11/15/the-burning-of-atlanta-9/
Thanks for observing this solemn anniversary. My attempt to share reflections from a native Southerner’s perspective with all the native Northerners on GeorgiaPol were not well received, and I’m glad to see they didn’t pounce on you today. The AJC’s Throwback Thursday page the week leading to Veterans Day was what caused my reflecting on the horrors of the Civil War and how our nation pulled itself back together less than 150 years ago. I guess I was hoping to pull some folks together on here.
I don’t have a link to that page, but it was entitled “Lee memorial unveiled on Stone Mountain: April 10, 1928” and was the front page of The Atlanta Constitution for that day. Interesting at the top of the page, a single newspaper was 5 cents, and a weekly subscription was 20 cents! The headline was “NATION JOINS SOUTH IN PAYING HOMAGE TO LEE AS MEMORIAL IS UNVEILED ON SIDE OF MOUNTAIN” and one of the speakers was the Mayor of NYC in a column entitled “Plea for Rights of States Made by Mayor of New York – Federal Encroachment is Hit by Speaker.” Another column was titled “Distinguished Visitors Eulogize Hero of Confederacy as Colossal Figure is Disclosed – Blue and Gray United at Base of Shrine of Confederacy.”
In part “Before the official representatives of thirty-five states of the union and a crowd of several thousand people the stars and bars of the Confederacy and the stars and stripes of the United States fell away from the scarf of Stone Mountain Monday afternoon and disclosed to view the completed head of General Robert E. Lee, beloved Confederate leader, and signified completion of the first unit of the memorial to the heroes who fought for the lost cause.” If you can get your hands on a copy of that 1928 front page, you may find the writing style pleasing as well as informative.

Granted he wasn’t out front on that one but still amusing to see Paul McCartney relegated to the “and others” category in the title and the lede.

Disassembling or dissembling the Twitty Pulpit?
Guess I’m too dumb to follow your snark today.
Sorry, if you have to explain it… I call the President’s frequently inane (like blaming California environmentalism for fires), tweets the Twitty Pulpit. Snark attempt failure. But I am interested in how traditional Republican operatives are coping if you care to go there.
Thankfully, this election cycle was the first election cycle since 2006 that I was not actively working on a campaign. I enjoyed it and my wife did as well.
My current position has allowed me to stay in political circles, but not working campaigns has been nice.
All that to say. I’m coping just fine. I have some friends that had a rough cycle. None of what happened in their races were their own fault. It was pretty much out of their hands.

Cool. Gulch developer CIM was going to allocated $8M of its $1.5B plus of its public incentive, less than 0.5%. to Amazon if Amazon choose the gulch for its HQ2. That’s a real sweetener for you.
Given that the beginning of the Amazon sweepstakes are well over a year old, it’s cause to consider how long Gulch negotiations have really been going on, especially in light of the out-of-the-woodwork got to act now presentation of the Gulch deal to City Council

Helluva picker.
Dang. Stan Lee and now Roy Clark.
Those guys had long, successful, rewarding (I think) lives though.
Long live Stan and Roy!

Former Methamphetamine Six owner Tom Grave’s on the GOP’s minority status in Congress: “We do not have the luxury of pulling punches or preaching bipartisanship. Democrats will do us no favors. It’s time to fight.”
The bipartisanship comment would have been funny if it didn’t have to compete with the clown in the White House.
Doug Collins had this to say: “We can get stuff done if they’re willing to work. But if they want to simply showboat or play to their socialist base, then that’s not going to work”
You mean showboat like the 50 plus House votes to repeal Obamacare that were meaningless the moment they were cast, with the House not once giving Collins’ Georgia delegation colleague and healthcare expert Tom Price’s “replace” proposal the time of day?
Collins said he’ll fight hard against any Trump investigations. Sounds to me like his mind is made up. Is that because he knows nothing, or knows something? You make the call.
The bright side is Collins said he’s willing to be collaborative on intellectual property and prison reform. Does he remember his Georgia General Assembly experience that that means he could get no credit?
Ranked-choice ftw. Dem Golden beats incumbent gop in Maine.

This is such a great example of how RCV can be better.
No costly runoff.
Everyone who voted in the GE also automatically voted in the instant runoff.
This seat was filled by every voter who voted in the GE, not some tiny subset of voters who showed up for a runoff.
It looks like they had primaries, but you don’t even have to do that. But they ended up with one D, one R, and two I’s. So apparently more of those I’s went to the D after the first round. So rather than having their votes wasted on a candidate that didn’t win, they still get a vote. Everybody gets a vote in the final 2. What’s not to like!
I know there have been times I was tempted to vote for 3rd party candidates (and I have a couple of times) but didn’t because I thought it was a wasted vote. In the current Gov race here, Metz is probably hurting Kemp a little bit (assuming Libertarians are more closely aligned with R’s than D’s). But in RCV, Metz would have been eliminated and those voters would get to pick their 2nd choice. As it is, those votes do nothing but make what would be their 2nd choice weaker.
I don’t think they have the tabulations posted for the Nov election yet, but here is the primary info if interested:
https://www.maine.gov/sos/cec/elec/results/results18.html#june18
You’ve brought me around to thinking favorably about ranked-choice voting, for the reasons you lay out. Who needs runoffs?
The Maine independents urged their supports to go dem on their second choice.
The loser has filed suit claiming rcv is unconstitutional.
https://www.politico.com/story/2018/11/15/jared-golden-maine-election-993293
I’m still more in favor of nonpartisan primaries with top two in the general. I just want to only vote for my top candidate but also I still maintain a conscientious objection to the taxpayers funding a political party’s nominee. That being said I would certainly go for RCV over the current 3, 4 or even 5 trips to the polls per cycle with only a small percentage of the voters making the final choice.
If we are going to have primaries, the Parties are going to want to decide how they choose their nominee. So non-partisan is, I would think, a non-starter. To me, ultimately it would be good to not even have primaries, just have open ballots for all who qualify. But that’s a big step. So in the meantime, let’s have primaries and use RCV for the GE, and eliminate the runoff. See how it goes.

The leftist propaganda media told is the caravans of thousands heading to breach the US border did not exist. Former president Obama appeared all over TV laughing about it and saying it was just a few “poor refugees” who would takes weeks or months to walk to our border. They all lied! The first 800 arrived in Tijuana on Tuesday, and there are now thousands there, some fighting with Mexican police and residents in Tijuana.

Mariel Boatlift Part 2…
Yep Noway, people who don’t learn history are doomed to repeat it. And they’ll figure out after the fact, as Aldous Huxley said, “You shall know the truth and the truth shall make you mad.”
And there you go again with your tired “Jewish” characterization. You do realize that you are the only poster on here to ever use that word, right? Not me, not Sally, Raliegh or Eiger. Not DTM, not Alpha. Just you, you tiresome little troll. You’re just plain sad…
Let me anticipate the expected counter to your charge–how about Medal of Freedom winner Miriam Adelson? Does that sound antisemitic to you? Not just a Jew but born in Israel. (OK, Palestine, close enough.)
“The leftist propaganda media told is the caravans of thousands heading to breach the US border did not exist. “
I believe that is a lie. The existence of the caravan was widely reported in many major media outlets. There was lots of video, embedded reporters, interviews… If you need to lie to make your point, you probably don’t have a good point.
“Former president Obama appeared all over TV laughing about it and saying it was just a few “poor refugees” who would takes weeks or months to walk to our border. “
Three lies in one sentence. You are getting good at this.
You sir, are a liar.
You are insulting – and sound like you’ve been under a rock for the last month or so. How does it look inside your colon? The major media outlets who even mentioned the existence of the caravan kept saying that it was not a problem, nothing to be concerned about, was breaking up, were accepting asylum in Mexico, etc. etc. One had to go to the internet to find any detailed coverage.
And, yes, Obama was on the campaign trail for Dem candidates, was on national news almost every night, made fun of anyone being concerned about the caravans, indicated America shouldn’t be doing anything about it, neglected to mention the fact it is thousands of people who broke down the borders of other countries they came through, indicated nothing out of the ordinary, etc. Move along, nothing to see here.
If you missed all that when it was happening, go back and watch some of the videos. While you’re at it, read some of the WaPo and other national newspapers’ articles in the 2-3 weeks leading up to the elections. And if you found any polyps, you should see a good gastro doc.
