The winter solstice brings forth an Austria tradition of Krampus, a half-demon, half-goat counterpart to Santa Claus. The legend is Krampus is a figure that punishes bad children by whipping and snatching them according to Germanic folklore. The traditional Krampus run in Austria is believed to ward off bad spirits near the winter solstice. The actual solstice will happen at about 5:30 EST today and the sun will reverse course and begin its trek back north making tonight the longest night of the year.
Happy Krampus Day to all and a hope you have all been good boys and girls or Krampus may come visiting.
It’s also a southern Prussian tradition. My Rhine valley German/Prussian roots had many a Krampus tale in their 1890 letters from my Great Grandmother to his siblings.
I thought a story about the Krampus tradition was in one of Grimm’s Fairy Tails too but my 60+ year old brain can’t recall the story…. It’s a wonder children weren’t scared for life by those Grimm’s stories 🙂

You’re kidding, right? It’s only ethics—recusal isn’t even legally required. And besides, four advisors Whittaker picked for himself determined there was no need to recuse.
Beyond that, there are other requirements to be met before recusal. Recusal isn’t necessary if Whitaker is doing a good job accordingly to any one of three branches of GOP government, Trump, senior elected officials or the Fox News/Trump base. Isn’t a founding principle of the country you don’t have to recuse until you’ve been proven to have done something unethical? Besides he’s a Trump pick and it’s the Trump base so of course he was doing the job ethically before he ever started it.
Whitaker’s unsolicited 20 page memo to the Justice Department and WH last summer declaring the Mueller investigation a witch hunt as grounds for recusal? Hell, that credentialed him a right-minded public servant with a sharp legal mind that and got him the job. There really ought not be a requirement for him to serve an extended period without Senate confirmation.

The GOP nominated and elected someone that after two years in office still doesn’t understand that it takes 60 votes to pass legislation in the Senate. Who knew a reality show actor would govern like, well, a reality show actor?.
