Morning Reads for Monday, January 28, 2019
If you haven’t seen the news, it’s *supposed* to maybe, possibly, probably not snow tomorrow. So, your duty as a Georgian is to rush out at some point today and get your milk and bread. Don’t fail us. Y’all empty those grocery shelves.
- Ken Breeden, the man who unified the Technical College System of Georgia, died December 14, 2018. His memorial service was held Saturday.
- The FBI is involved in the R. Kelly saga concerning a flight for an underage girl.
- Savannah’s Olde Pink House will reopen in April after a fire shut it down in December.
- No more survivors are expected to be found in Brazil after a mudslide.
- Dr. Don Thomas, of Whitefield County, known in some circles as the Father of the Smoking Ban in Georgia, has retired.
- Howard Schultz is considering a presidential run in 2020. I mean, why not? All the cool kids are.
- THIS IS NOT AN US ADVERTISING, however…if you are looking for a winter tryst, apparently John’s Creek is the number one city in America to be, with Marietta coming in hot in 4th place.
- Earth’s oldest rock was found on the moon.
- Roger Stone expects to be “acquitted and vindicated.” So there, y’all.
- Ok, the Robertsons are headed out of Atlanta before the mayhem begins this week. But if you are some of the folks headed TOWARDS the chaos, read this.

Finding an earth rock on the moon is not that unusual we have found Moon rocks on earth and even Mars rocks on Earth. Due to the violent nature of universe and planet collisions during the formation of our solar system rocks from all the planets are likely scatted everywhere. Below is a link about Mars rocks found on earth.
One of my favorite quotes from Neil DeGrasse Tyson is “When I look at the universe and all the ways the universe wants to kill us.” He made the statement while talking about religion but you get the point. Per our best guess the dinosaurs did get the point. It’s not a matter of if another large meteor strike will happen but when it will happen.

Notice from APD:
Notification of DOE/NNSA low-altitude helicopter flying on Jan. 28, 29, and Feb. 3
Hello Nextdoor Neighbors,
Please do not become alarmed by low flying helicopters over the Downtown Atlanta and Buckhead areas on January 28, 29, and February 3. The Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration will conduct low-altitude helicopter flights as part of security operations for Super Bowl LIII and will measure naturally occurring background radiation.
Atlanta residents and visitors may see a twin-engine Bell 412 helicopter, which is equipped with radiation-sensing technology and is operated by NNSA’s Remote Sensing Laboratory Aerial Measuring System at Andrews Air Force Base n
ear Washington, D.C. The helicopter will fly in a grid pattern over the areas at 150 feet or higher at a speed of approximately 80 mph. Flyovers will occur only during daylight hours and are estimated to take roughly three hours to complete per area.
Is the purpose of this kind of operation to detect dirty bombs?
That would be my guess.
Either that or they suspect Brady’s got some new trick up his sleeve.
Standard for any thing classified as a National Security Event; like Superbowls, Worlds Series, UN week, State of the Union, Opening and classing races of NCCAR, NCAA play offs, The Masters, Indy 500. RNC & DNC weeks, ect.If it’s a high profile event or has major political implications, its a NSE.
The look for anything that would have a radiation signature really. Some poisons carry signatures. Example, the poisons the old USSR developed are made from the same elements found in X-ray machines and some photo processing equipment, Radiation treatment areas have multiple signatures. Pre-mapping where known signatures are can helps in finding unexpected signatures the day of the game.
You are a never-ending font of information. Thanks!
Just watched their aircraft do its grid of low-level (below height of cranes working on Ga Aquarium) passes over downtown/midtown and wondering if there’s still any residual radiation detectable at the site of the reactor that was decommissioned and removed from the Tech campus over 20 years ago. 🙂
Atomic Way. Good memories.
It could be Jade Helm 16. Or maybe the implementation of Agenda 21.
Are they using black helicopters? PSA: Use lead foil for your hat. Much more effective than aluminum.
Great the government is open again.
Physical border barriers aren’t immoral, though the some of the attitude Republicans appeal to and encourage with their wall talk is.
I’m not opposed to additional funding for physical barriers. Democrats have supported funding for barriers in the past. It’s a different day and new rules at the behest of Republicans. Any additional money for new barriers should be contingent on permanent amnesty for DACA recipients and TPS protection.
It’s long established practice that every effort should be made to not reward hostage-taking. Attacking DACA, then offering a temporary reprieve in order to fund more wall is a non-starter.

Here is my collection of links from last week. The title is a proposed campaign slogan:
#Bernie2020 It’s His Turn
I’m just going to leave this here.

I remember when it was only $19 trillion and candidate Trump promised not just to eliminate the deficit, but also to eliminate the entire national debt in 8 years. I’m not an economist but the tax cuts don’t seem to be making that happen.
April 2, 2016
Donald Trump: “We’ve got to get rid of the $19 trillion in debt.”
Bob Woodward: “How long would that take?”
Trump: “I think I could do it fairly quickly, because of the fact the numbers…”
Woodward: “What’s fairly quickly?”
Trump: “Well, I would say over a period of eight years…

$19 trillion can’t be eliminated because Pelosi and Schumer won’t agree to cut social security and Medicare and Medicaid, NATO and other allies won’t takeover all military spending outside of the US, Mexico isn’t pay for the wall, and the Chinese aren’t doing want we tell ’em to do.
It could be worse Georgia citizenry…
