Morning Reads for Tuesday, February 5
Good morning. Again: New Orleans will never get over it. (Nor should they.)
- Stacey Abrams, who is about as unflappable a politician as ever lived, will deliver the rebuttal to Trump’s SOTU address tonight.
- Here are the top 10 public and private schools in Georgia.
- Chatham County split with Savannah – and crime in that jurisdiction went down.
- Veterans studying at the VECTR program in middle Georgia now have a dorm!
- A Columbus youth won a prestigious U.S. Senate Delegate scholarship.
- In coastal Georgia, there’s an oral history project that aims to capture the legacy of our fishing culture.
- The Houses of Representatives (is that the proper pluralization?) in Nevada and Colorado are majority woman.
- How Chinese (and other ethnic) restaurants are shut out of the organic food movement largely because of the assumption that quality ethnic food must also be inexpensive.
- You should consider brushing up your Failure Resume.
- Ranking the best – and worst – Super Bowl ads.

Bumping my sentiment of relief in the relative peace received when visiting here.
The Dade County School Board wants to raise the taxes on seniors. They feel they are entitled to the money of people over 65. In Dade County seniors over 65 can sign up for a property tax exemption for the house and five acres. This exemption has been in effect for 14 years. Now the board wants their money. They had a last minute meeting so the public wasn’t aware. Only those who read a local web page. https://www.timesfreepress.com/news/breakingnews/story/2019/feb/04/dade-county-school-board-debate-elimination-property-tax-exemption-tonight/487997/
WH on SOTU: “Together, we can break decades of political stalemate, we can bridge old divisions, heal old wounds, build new coalitions, forge new solutions, and unlock the extraordinary promise of America’s future.”
Kellyanne Conway: The address will be used “to call for an end to the politics of resistance, retribution”
Hear that RINOs? Trump is welcoming you back. No more if you aren’t for him you’re against him. You need only acquiesce to serial lying, narcissism, denigration of government service, and low character and intelligence with your continued silence. He recognizes he needs you like you need him.
For non-Republicans, do your part to MAGA by capitulating and rewarding Trump and his supporters for Trump’s willful maliciousness and stupidity. You can trust he’s going to pivot. It’s been in the cards now for 40 years.
His chance for all that was at the inauguration. Instead we got “American carnage”.
Pull that seat belt a little tighter Cadet Bone Spurs, it’s going to be a rough ride.
Why do telephones have 123 on top, while computers have 123 on the bottom? https://chamblee54.wordpress.com/2019/02/05/why-telephone-keypads-are-different-from-computer-keypads-5/

Revisiting the ongoing story of 21 Savage:
He came to the U.S. in 2005 at the age of 12. He’s been living here on an expired visa since 2006, when he was 13. According to his attorney, he applied for a U Visa in 2016, one set aside for victims of certain crimes “who have suffered mental or physical abuse and are helpful to law enforcement or government officials in the investigation or prosecution of criminal activity.” ICE is currently holding him without bond – despite the fact he isn’t a flight risk and has not been charged with any crime. He’s got three kids who are all American citizens. He’s started a charity to teach kids financial literacy. He gives out free school supplies, clothes, and haircuts to kids in Atlanta. This is some grade A b.s.

Surely “the wall” would have saved us from all of this.
Putting my money that this “human wall” is not only mentioned tonight, but becomes the policy of WH choice going forward. OK, I have no money. But if it’s a viable path to avoid govt shutdown, and involves manned outposts and tech, and not a human centipede, why not.

Wish I had taken the prop bet for longer than an hour…
I took that bet with the Trumpster in my world. He now has to skip poker with the guys and has to go to a poetry reading with me this weekend.
What if you had lost?
Boat Show in March.
When he reads this later this afternoon or tomorrow morning he will learn I don’t mind boat shows. 1/3 of my family works for or retired from Mercury Marine. It was going to be a win-win for me either way – he just didn’t know it.. 😉
He will also learn I plan on taking him to a bar with a blues band afterwards.
I see Theodis Ealy in town on the Fri. I’ve seen him, he’s very good! Joe Bonamassa on Sat, so go to a club late and maybe he’ll show up!
Ealy is March 1st along with Sir Charles Jones, Calvin Richardson, & Pokey Bear

Joe Bonamassa is March 2nd and going for over $200 each unless you’re in the last 4 rows of the balcony, which at only $184.
