Yes.
That’s a scary picture of Ranger Chuck.
In the case of the disappearing employee, you can see how it happened. We now have an full-employment environment, so the possible loss of a job doesn’t have the same consequences that you would have with 10% unemployment. And, with the current generation of young employees, there is a heightened sense of personal worth and expectations. I don’t picture DeepDark as being an 18th Century employer type, but in this day and time, you never know if the scale has slid a bit too far. And a lot of other enterprises have approached employees as being low-level interchangeable parts, viewed more as a necessary inconvenience rather than as an asset.
In any case, this is yet another compelling case for Artificial Intelligence moving into the workplace. You hear the pilots talking about aircraft simulators and the airplanes that they fly. The simulators now behave very much as the airplane does. And the airplane behaves very much like the simulator. Convergence.
Got employee problems? Get a robot.
I’ll add that “ghosting” goes both ways. I’ve interviewed for a number of jobs only to hear absolutely nothing from the employer (good or bad) for months on end. Two years ago, the Seattle office of a big law firm interviewed me in DC, then flew me out to Seattle for follow-ups. Still haven’t heard back from them.
All that does is shift the problem to robot manufacturers! 🙂
Sorry about the late post but sometimes my employer actually want me to do work for him.. This is a quote from a past UAW president by the name of Walter Reuther.
Walter Reuther and Henry Ford II, CEO of Ford, toured a state-of-the-art engine plant in Cleveland. As they walked about the plant, Ford gestured to the cutting-edge, automated machines, saying, “Walter, how are you going to get these robots to pay union dues?” Without missing a beat, Reuther famously replied: “Henry, how are you going to get them to buy your cars?”
The question about automation remains, when robots replace workers who can afford the products they make?
The site is acting strangely lately. Sometimes when I post a comment the screen doesn’t refresh. It looks like the comment was never submitted. I can correct it by refreshing the screen myself, but I thought I would mention it.
You probably needed something else to do anyway.
I’ll check it out.
Great idea! Get them on the record over this legislation.

Lets say you have a board room for 100 people. That is going to require 1500 SF min. under the fire code. The building owner will cover the items that would put his Building into insurance related liability if not done correctly, like adding a second door, reversing door swings, new door hardware, new sprinkler layout, fire alarm and any updates to wall ratings. That is standard in a tenet remodel.
This leaves new lighting – energy LED min. ($17 SF), new acoustical ceiling and grids ($5 SF), upgrading electrical – which as a board room under the new codes requires almost 3 times the outlets in prior codes ($18 SF), new TV screens, mic and speaker systems, wiring the board members data feeds, recording systems and wireless data runs – all mid level pricing ($32), new HVAC runs and ducts($15), Class B mid priced paint, carpet and trim packages ($16), which is $103. SF, plus $40,000 (in demo, waste removal, general labor, construction cleaning,6% GC profit).
($103 X 1500 SF) + $40,000 = $194,500 ($129.34 SF) for a 100 person board room.
Based on historical price data outside the metro: government level tax payer funded board rooms in new construction are running $216 SF using mid level pricing of materials and non union labor – includes built in place board member furnishings. $216 X 1500 SF = $324,000 for a 100 person board room in the non Atlanta metro market.
A single 35 year old has sex with a 17 year old – goes to jail. How is that same 35 year old and 17 year old having sex but being married, make it all better?
Make the law to get married 18. No exceptions.
I don’t believe it takes out the “must ask parents” thing (which is current law for 16 yro), just ups the age from 16.
A 17 year old is legally a minor. The current (and proposed new law) let’s a minor (with parent’s consent) get married. A 17 year old can’t drink in public even when a parent is standing next to you and hands you the drink. But a 17 year old can get married… They will just need their spouse to fill out a permission slip (as their legal guardian) to go on high school trips from now on instead of mom or dad.
Are you debating something or just pointing out the obvious?
Marriage makes the act of sex legal. Not sure how many guys/girls would go through that pain just to get laid.
I’m pointing out a minor should not be allowed to get married.
Why? It’s Better than running off and eloping, right?
Because other states allow minors to get married, so should Georgia…? Stopping needless elopements across state lines to the Gretna Green of the South is major problem here? (Eyeroll…)
I’m sorry, please tell me where I said minors should get married?
But, if we want to get into the weeds… I would much rather have a 35 year old legally marry a 17 year old than just have sex with said 17 year old. At least there is a legal responsibility and recourse through the courts if the relationship ends.
Truthfully I don’t feel most people are mature enough to get married.
I didn’t say you said minors should get married, “Better than running off and eloping” I believe was you comment. Which I took as sarcasm.
Minors should not be getting married is my point. If it’s bad to have sex with a minor when you’re a single adult (like statutory rape, becoming a sex offender for life bad), why should we allow minors to get married?
Take it as a step in the right direction.
And how does HB 43 play into this?
Age of consent to engage in sexual activity is 16 in GA.
This is the very definition of an abuse of power.

The very best justice money can buy brought to you by the very best politicians money can buy.
I logged in just to come and post this article.
Ugh. This absolutely sickens me. What an absolute abuse of power. And one that it seems people are just resigned to. Is there no on in the legislature or judiciary willing to take this guy on and stop this behaviour?
I hope whoever primaries Ralston next makes this a central focus of their campaign against him. It is the definition of disgusting.
