This HB316 fiasco is infuriating! How can the SoS be so obviously promoting something so profoundly against all experience and logic? We are being railroaded and it’s in plain sight!
If this government was worth it’s taxpayer-paid salaries there would already be an investigation into how and why this system is being jammed down our throats despite the exorbinant cost and opposition by experts.
Why is the SoS lying about the comparative costs?
Why is the SoS supporting one system over another at all?
Why did the SAFE commission majority vote against the expert analysis?
I know we can see the vendor proposals but has anyone seen the actual bids with cost numbers?
This should be the easiest, most transparent process. It should be non-partisan and there shouldn’t be anything to hide! Why all the deception and thumb-on-the-scale behavior? I feel like calling the FBI! This state is like a little banana republic sometimes. The corruption is just a way of life, because they can do it with no fear of retribution. Disgusting.
The nearly party line vote was 101 Y – 72 N. My guess less than 10, a few from each party crossing over, so it was officially bipartisan.

I would’ve thought that FreedomWorks would have had a little more impact with their letter, assuming it was delivered in time.
Now I have to ask what log was rolled in exchange for party commitment to this Yea vote? I.e., What may Kemp have committed to Ralston in exchange?

Just wanted to make sure you saw the analysis from the sos. I agree this needs a second look.

I’m sure there are sites made for comedy. At lease ones where you can test if your joke is actually good or not.
Who will be the first legislator to tell us not to do this? https://www.wftv.com/news/local/bill-proposes-dogpetting-while-driving-be-made-illegal-in-florida/925982028
The bill means “you could be pulled over if you’re seen petting your pup behind the wheel.”
So is the problem that ppl are letting their dogs drive?
That would suck. Dogs do not understand turn signals at all.
From the NYT: Republicans Sink Further Into Trump’s Cesspool: What they left out of their questioning of Michael Cohen says more about the degradation of my former party than anything they said.
“A second thing that stands out from Mr. Cohen’s testimony is that the Republican Party has been as corrupted by its association with Mr. Trump as Mr. Cohen was by his.”
“The ethic that became the norm at the Trump Organization —- defacing the truth and disfiguring reality in the service of Donald J. Trump — is the ethic that has become the norm of the Republican Party and the American right.”
“When this story is finally told ….. the Republican Party will be the political and institutional version of Mr. Cohen, who squandered his integrity in the service of a man of borderless corruption.”

Election night 2020 is going to be a sad place for you when Trump wins a second term.
Democrats could easily win if they would just focus on real issues and not this sideshow. Much liked republicans pissed away their chances of beating Obama in 2012 the democrats are going to do the exact same thing. All because of their inability to focus on real issues.
This sideshow with Cohen is only going to make the people who voted for Trump more likely to show up and vote again.
The democrats willingness to sign on to a Green Deal bill that will put thousands of blue collar workers in key states out of work is plain dumb.
The democrats desire to not protect the lives of children born alive will peal off votes they gained in the educated white women category. These are women who were republicans but voted for Hillary. Some will swing back towards republicans because of that absurd vote.
I could go on, but I have work to do.
I leave this warning for democrats. Obama derangement syndrome gave Obama a second term. Trump derangement syndrome will give Trump a second term.
Gun legislation passed the house yesterday.
Key differences between Obama and Trump are their character and integrity. Voters will decide if those characteristics, and whether legal equal ethical in their representation.
Yeah, gun legislation passed, but without the common sense amendment that would notify ICE if someone here illegally was trying to purchase a gun. But democrats will continue to scream they only want common sense gun legislation.
I’d use that in ads all day to beat Lucy McBath and the others that voted against it.
Factually incorrect. The Motion to Recommit, offered by Rep Collins, was agreed to, and the Nadler Amendment (text below) was inserted into the bill, then the bill passed with the notification requirement.
So then there are true, but misleading ads on both sides:
D’s voted against the motion to recommit, which added this clause; R’s voted against the bill to pass, which included this clause.
(Congressional Record, p H2262)
If people voted for character, Trump and Hillary would not have been the nominees for their parties in 2016.
The Republican Party has made a deal with the devil but that doesn’t mean they’ll lose. The devil has a lot of fans. And, right now, he wins more than he loses. But the Democrats aren’t doing themselves any favors. I was really appalled by both sides behavior during yesterday’s hearings. I had no expectations of decency from the Republicans on the panel.
The mistake the Democrats made was focusing on things like: a) did Trump beat his wife in an elevator b) does the pee tape exist? c) does the love child exist? e) is Trump behind on child support payments f) has the president paid for an abortion? All of these issues turn off reasonable people and they either won’t vote or they’ll vote for Trump because they feel he’s being treated unfairly.
There are many, many issues that could drive voters to the Democratic party’s side. Things like:
Health Care
Child separation
Income inequality
Climate change
Reasonable gun control
Trumps embrace of brutal dictators and his humiliation of our traditional allies.
Trump’s dehumanizing language regarding black and brown people and Muslims.
But the tactic of going as low as Trump goes will not work out for the Democrats! You can’t wallow with pigs and get up clean.
Let’s pump the brakes on using phrases like “making deals with the devil.” The definition of the devil at work is voting against a bill that would protect a child born alive. Trying to redefine what murder is is literally doing the devils work for him.
As I said in another post the democrats could win in 2020 if they were disciplined. But votes like this one and going low as you say will get Trump reelected.
I agree with you in that Trump derangement syndrome is gonna hurt the dems but even if they get off of that, I just don’t see this country voting for someone who actually supports the extremist agenda of the current dem party. Green new deal, post birth abortion, reparations, free everything? Maybe I am naive but I just have a hard time seeing a majority voting for an agenda that is both absurd and evil.
I keep hearing the term post birth abortion. How can it be an abortion if the child was actually delivered out of the birth canal? Alive. Any step taken post birth to end the baby’s life, if completed, is murder. That issue alone will result in Trump’s re-election.
My understanding, limited as it is, is that there are vey rare situations where late-term abortions go wrong. The procedure may be done to save the life of the mother, or because the child is already dying, but either way the child is already dying. The bill would want the doctor to try to resuscitate a dying baby that has no chance at living, and about which the life or death decision was already medically determined.
Gruesome stuff, really. No one wants to see a baby die, or witness attempts to save an inevitably dying baby. It’s not like anybody wins with this. If there was any chance of saving a viable baby, it would have happened.
We’re only even arguing about this scenario because medical advances. In the olden days, babies or moms would just die during childbirth.
So, because everyone would save a viable baby, it all seems political. Thus, the most relevant quote I got was from Yahoo News
— “Wear, the former Obama faith adviser, said that ‘politicians are exploiting on both sides…Democrats tell their base that any Republican pro-life bill is disingenuous, not what it really appears to be,’… ‘Republicans ignore the stated motivation of Democrats on these issues generally, and impose on them the worst motives possible.”
Stuff happens! Before 2016 we all had a harrd time believing the country could elect a twice divorced, immigrant marrying, reality TV host whose only political experience was 7 years of dogging the current president with a racist theory about his birth and religion.
No one opposes care for newborn babies. It’s the potential 5 year prison term for doctors that is the problem.
So this is another one of those cynical bills that no one expected to pass but it creates a deceptive message that can be used for political purposes.
Nice.
I’m all for a five year prison sentence to doctors who use a pair of scissors to sever the spinal cord of a child that is born alive.
I’m pretty sure that is already illegal.
But if that was all it punished it might have passed anyway.
https://www.congress.gov/bill/116th-congress/senate-bill/311/text
Yeah. The defect with the bill is in the definitions section, and that’s what’s objectionable.
We already have a definition of “human”, in 1 USC 8, which includes everyone born alive, including infants whose hearts are beating after an induced abortion. So this law is not necessary and is just for messaging.
Quoting for legislation appreciated, davidmac.
A plus sides, Gregs, to some of the Dems non-germane questions is that Cohen dealt allegations made them hyperbole in refuting them.
The main takeaway from that circus yesterday is that the dems, and obviously Mueller, have bupkis on Russsian collusion. And they now obviously realize that is a dog that ain’t gonna hunt. Even if there really was anyone still believing that Russia canard, Cohen pretty much stomped that sucker flat ( with apologies to the late great LG). That’s why they went down ratholes such as rascism, love children, and domestic violence.
What an embarrassment.
2018 annual GDP: 2.9%. In the year when you’d expect the MOST economic activity from the massive revenue slash, we grew at 2.9%. “3% is the floor, i’d expect 4, 5, 6% growth…” – Every Trump Economic ‘adviser’
But whats another few trillion dollars onto the debt….
