Ms. Handel having a little trouble getting out of the gate:
@karenhandel
Yesterday, I announced my candidacy to serve Georgia’s Sixth District. Today, those that served with me in the House of Representatives or served the Sixth District on behalf of Georgia and Georgians have made it known that she is their clear choice.
Sigh. Much mocking of Karen Handel this site does. It seems folks liked Handel a lot better when she was running against Deal, Perdue and others for the GOP nomination than when she runs against Democrats. It reminds me of the McCain thing. Beloved when he was running against George W. Bush for the GOP nomination and sabotaging GOP judicial nominations and legislation in the Senate. Despised the one time he opposed Democrats by winning the GOP nomination in 2008. (And even then he was the GOP candidate most Democrats rooted to win the nomination.)
But hey. you can prove me wrong. Propose a GOP candidate that you would prefer to Handel to challenge for what is still very much a swing seat that a good candidate could win with a more favorable presidential election year turnout. But make sure that it is a Republican candidate that Republican voters in that district would want representing them as opposed to someone you think that GOP voters in that district should have representing them because of course you know what their real issues and priorities should be better than they do.
The grief that Handel gets shows that GOPers really are better off playing to their base.
Re: “McCain Thing”. I agree many folks rooted for McCain to win nomination because he was respected and could have made the final race respectable. I don’t think he was despised. He was pitied after picking idiot Palin as running mate and everything went downhill from there, but not despised.
How is this “trouble getting out the gate?”
Anyone that knows Brandon knows that he is friends with Scalise or at least he tells everyone that. It’s big news to have Scalise and the others behind Karen. That means money will flow her way. Again, I fail to see how this is stumbling out the gate.
It’s just a simple grammatical error, soon to be forgotten, but it’s like she just decided to enter the race day before yesterday and threw a tweet out there to make it official.
I’m not one to point out other’s grammatical or spelling errors because I make quite a few mistakes myself. But I see your point that the tweet could have been a little cleaner.
I can assure you she did not decide to run the day before yesterday and then throw up a tweet.
I can assure you she did not decide to run the day before yesterday and then throw up a tweet.
This is correct. Handel decided to run .0003 seconds after the 2018 race was called for McBath. There is no world in which Karen Handel doesn’t run for some office because that would require her to get a real job and she doesn’t do well in jobs that don’t allow her to imbue her abject partisan hackery into everything.
She’s like the relative who bakes a bland and forgettable green bean casserole every Thanksgiving. No one ever eats it, but she just keeps bringing it.
So many false and just straight ignorant statements here.
“Handel decided to run .0003 seconds after the 2018 race was called for McBath.” Not true at all. I would know. She took her time and spoke with a lot of people before deciding to run. I’m glad that she decided to put herself out there again knowing that she would get attacked from people like you.
Do you live in the 6th? I do and I will be voting again for Karen.
I also like green bean casserole.
I hope she takes a lot of money from the NRA again.
NRA or not, if she wants to win, she has to have a coherent position on the 2nd Amendment that persuades the % of swing voters that went for McBath because of McBath’s 2nd Amendment position.
Might have just been 2-4% who were issue voters on that, but that’s a critical %.
Maybe she can stand with the NRA on their opposition to the Violence Against Women Act, that’s sure to be a winning bet in the 6th.
To be fair, you can have intent/desire/gut feelings, and fulfil different parts of the decision-making process, both instantaneously, and over the course of time, upon reflection.
Nothing is wrong or unusual with either or both, or other unmentioned, angles on the decision process.
Thought abt this a little more, and thought that the whole debate about when and how any candidate decides to run may be some sort of proxy to judge a candidate in the conflict between a candidate’s ego/political ambitions vs. a more selfless desire to serve.
Except every candidate has at least a % of the former, and most all also have at least a % of the latter. So, who is more ambitious and who more servile? That’s a decent question, I suppose, with perhaps little consistent way to answer it.
Speaking of sincerity, it is disturbing to see the reports from the GA House about this ‘heartbeat bill’. Many appear to be conflicted about how to vote based on their re-election chances. How can you judge how you are going to vote on a bill like that based on your re-election? It’s not even that great of a job anyway. The pay sucks, it’s hard work, and I’m sure you hear complaints all the time. Vote your conscience and let the chips fall where they may! So what if you lose? Go back to your other job.
So since Alysa Milano doesn’t want Hollywood spending any money in Georgia anymore because of the heart beat bill. Does that mean she’s going to stay out of our elections?
Right. Maybe you could broker a deal: She stays out of our elections and Erick Erickson lays off of AOC.
But could Erick possibly fill all that air-time if he isn’t attacking a freshman Congresswoman who has absolutely zero impact on his life?
Which highlights the difference: Somebody like Erickson does it for money. Milano does it because she believes.
I’d note that he dropped his moral indignation at Trump the moment he realized the money that could be made by trolling in his wake. Tubby will do his song and dance for whoever is willing to wave enough cash in his face.
But most importantly, on this day in 1941 the Governor signed legislation that made snake handling illegal. So the folks up on Sand Mountain were forced to drive a couple of miles to Alabama.
If Stacey Abrams is planning to run for something again (almost a certainty it seems), I’m not sure why she titled her new book “Lead From The Outside”.

Maybe it’ll be cause for Trumpers to reconsider their opinion of socialism, but don’t hold your breath.
