Congressman Barry Loudermilk and Chief of Staff Rob Adkerson Honored By Capitol Police
I came across a press release on the Bartow County GOP Facebook page about the Capitol Police honoring those who were on the field when a man opened fire on Republican Congressmen and staffers during their Congressional Baseball Game practice in 2017. Two of those men on the field that day were Congressman Barry Loudermilk and his Chief of Staff Rob Adkerson. The following is from a press release from Congressman Loudermilk’s office:
Two-years ago, on June 14, 2017, a man driven by political divisiveness opened fire on Republican Congressmen and staff members, as they practiced for their annual baseball game for charity in Alexandria, Virginia. This week, the United States Capitol Police honored those who were on the field that day with the Medal of Merit.
The Medal of Merit is the U.S. Capitol Police’s highest honor, and was awarded to those who were on the field who responded with bravery and aided the wounded during the shooting.
“There were many acts of courage at the field that day, from law enforcement, our teammates, and others. This recognition brought back so many emotions I haven’t felt for a while,” said Rep. Barry Loudermilk. “My Chief of Staff, Rob Adkerson, and I are extremely humbled to receive the Capitol Police Medal of Merit, and we will never forget the officers who placed their lives on the line to protect us.”
“Thankfully, those on the field who were shot that day, survived – a true blessing,” said Rep. Loudermilk. “Events like this change us forever; but, it is important for us to be here and to show the world that we will not let an act of evil deter us.”
