Morning Reads for Wednesday, June 19
Juneteenth
Two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation, an order was read in Texas on June 19, 1865 announcing that all slaves were free in Texas and throughout the United States. Part of the order read: “This involves an absolute equality of personal rights and rights of property between former masters and slaves, and the connection heretofore existing between them becomes that between employer and hired labor.”

Was working and didn’t see the presidents announcement. How was it received? Many people there?
That’s a loaded question and I guess a matter of perspective. I have heard larger attendance than Obama’s while also hearing attendance was poor. The more non-biased counts I have seen are between 18-22,000.
He spoke for 76 minutes and went after his critics. The audience reacted enthusiastically, with some lining up 40 hours beforehand.
I suppose you could have, like, read one of the links in the MRs Lawton provided.
Why the snark to the question? Actually, Lawton’s link was to NYT. It has a paywall. But thanks for the advice to look for links relating to his question. I found a couple that said Trump raised 30 plus million. Overnight. That’s more than the opposition candidates combined for their entire first quarter. And that the crowd for Trump’s re-election announcement completely dwarfed Obama’s announcement all good signs for the president. So, respectfully, you could acknowledge that Trump had a good night.
Stupid questions deserve stupid answers. It was an obvious jump ball tossed up to get comments like yours in praise of Trump, just as the same commenter did yesterday. Respect what? A classic bandwagon marketing roll out? Preaching to a choir that would have cheered his farts?
He’s firing internal pollsters for divulging the truth and is trying to gin up a dog wagging war in desperation. Whistle past the graveyard at your own peril.
Trump had Tillerson eviscerate the State Department. Trump withdrew us from the Iran nuclear deal, discrediting his claim his primary concern is that Iran not obtain nuclear weapons.. Security agencies are rife with senior people loyal only to political party—Trump has said so himself.
We’ve pooped on our allies for over a year now. Pompeo has a laundry list of foreign policy requirements for Iran. Bolton wants military action and regime change. (Why stand for Iran not developing nuclear weapons by treaty when we can try to achieve the same thing by war? And the regime change Bolton supported in Iraq has been a smashing success.) The Defense Secretary position is open because there are few qualified and willing to serve a racist demagogue.
Given the leadership, unity of purpose and objectives, articulated strategy and tactics, and our allies behind us, what could possibly go wrong? Trump letting us know on a need to basis the purpose, objectives, strategy and tactics based on his gut feeling and what Fox News tells is sure to garner enthusiasm among our poopy allies.
Trump has already been successful on one count. Khashoggi’s murder by our so-called ally is forgiven or forgotten.
Speaking of demagogues, you lob another grenade about Trump being a racist demagogue. I am sure you don’t mind backing up a usual hate filled rant with a little evidence.
Could the demagogues be the liberal accusers that hurl the allegations? 2 days in a row right here…
The Muslim ban.
Because he thinks that proves he isn’t a racist and wants to make his supporters feel better about the whole, “did we really vote for a racist?” thing.
I don’t know. I wasn’t aware Jesse Jackson was the barometer on whether someone is a racist or not. Jesse Jackson was publicly supportive of OJ Simpson, does that mean OJ isn’t a murderer?
They were calling him racist when he took out a full page ad calling for the deaths of the Central Park 5 (he still hasn’t apologized or acknowledged he was wrong, by the way). They were calling him racist when he was leading the birther movement (he hasn’t apologized for that, either). They were calling him racist when the Justice Department charged him with discriminating against minority tenants. People have been calling Trump a racist for a real long time, not my fault you just weren’t paying attention.
That’s it?!
<
ol>
What on earth does Trump have to do with the Central Park 5? Strike 3.
I didn’t know a birth certificate was Racist! Hillary led the early birther charge herself! That shouldn’t surprise you with her hiring spies for fake dossiers against Trump, loading the primaries against Bernie or using the FBI against the opposition. Is she a racist too!
By the way, you listed not a single policy that was racist. Telling isn’t it?
This is laughable! Were you awake for the seven years when he was the leader of the “racist” birther movement? Where were you when he took out an ad in the failing New York Times calling for the police to murder five innocent black men?
Trump is a self avowed white nationalist who believes there are good Nazis! He’s fallen in love with a brutal dictator who starves his people and murders his relatives. He believes a Russian dictator who is the sworn enemy of the US over every American who contradicts the dictator but you defend him at every turn.
Trump’s zombies are the Sergeant Schultz of America: I see nothing, I know nothing and I say nothing when it comes to the sins of the cult leader.

I will bite ! Why don’t you show us some quote or proof that Trump is a self -avowed white supremacy! So why don’t you back that up? Good luck.
It was Obama making fun of Romney who pointed out the threat posed by the Russians. I
Obama told him to get out of the Cold War mind set. Cut it out Vlad! Pretty please!
Hillary had her plastic reset button and paid for fake Russian intel along with the FBI to frame Trump!
Trump has the US energy independent with zero help from the left’s anti fossil fuel war ….that is hammering Russia more than anything else. That and a strong US military.
The US Private Oil industry is trying to extract, refine and sell as much as possible, as fast as possible, as exports. It is slowing down a bit due to over production and slowing sales. That is not a strategy for energy independence. Independence would extract, refining and use as needed within the US. Reality- the energy industry isn’t that simple either.
Russia is doing just fine making Agriculture deals with China. China and other countries are leading with alternative energy.
The world Oil and Gas industry is staying healthy and wealthy with subsidies. https://www.forbes.com/sites/jamesellsmoor/2019/06/15/united-states-spend-ten-times-more-on-fossil-fuel-subsidies-than-education/
Forbes is hardly a Leftist rag. read the punch line, “Renewable energy is set to overtake fossil fuels as the energy source of the future, with or without the subsidies paid out for coal, petroleum and natural gas. “
Buster/DTM/whatever –> Take a deep breath and chill a little before the wrath of The DD is rekindled.

(twitter link sometimes lets you past pay wall….)
I am seeing more CMU baring walls being used instead of framed red iron to lower costs. My family had to rework the replacement schedule farm equipment. New tractor buy is on hold, as is a new thresher. We have two threshers, but they replace one every 6 years, holding onto it for 12 years before they sell it. So much existing equipment has gone on the market to paydown bills, foreclosure auctions or bank repos, they would not get the needed value of the sale towards the new thresher.
I gotta say, the Jerry Falwell-Miami pool boy-Michael Cohen saga keeps getting weirder:
