This new Delta Service sounds a lot like the old Midwest Express Airline that Northwest bought out in 2004. I loved the ATL to MKE flight out of Gate D6 (only gate they had at ATL). Two hour flight, every seat was ‘Business’ class. Dinner served on square white china with silverware – wine or beer with the meal. As you were descending, the smell of chocolate cookies baking filled the air. As you taxied in, the flight attendants would pull them out of the commercial grade baker and hand them to you in napkins as you walked out the hatch door.
I miss that airplane.
Don’t forget the leather seats, too. It all started when Kimberly Clark found itself flying executives back and forth between ATL and MKE. Airline (talking to itself): “Gee, why don’t we take on some paying customers at the same time…..”
This is correct. The airport in Appleton, Wisconsin (Outagamie County Airport back then) was where the KC people left from originally, and then they added Milwaukee as their hub when they formed the airline. Appleton (ATW) is the easiest in and out airport in the country I swear. It has 8 gates, every thing is still on the same level and security takes 10 minutes tops. A lot of Gulfstream, Oshkosh Truck, the pairs parent company General Dynamics, Georgia Pacific, and Pierce folks fly in and out of that airport daily. Delta does an Appleton to Atlanta direct now. Lots of week day flights, very few weekend ones.
