Here is another collection of links. Last week was busy on the intercom. Maybe the last week before school starts will be a bit less ridiculous.
Trump on “Send her back”: “I was not happy with it. I disagree with it.” Asked why he did not stop the chants, Trump responded, “I think I did. I started speaking very quickly.”
It happened only the day before and was on video that Trump likely reviewed before he was asked, and that anyone can view for themselves, but Trump lied anyway. It’s what he does.

So as make clear that Republicans brushing off another Trump lie with the explanation “See there, Trump said he disagreed with it,” are pathetic, Trump retweeted:
“New Campaign slogan for #2020
“Don’t love it? Leave it!”
Send her back is the new lock her up
Well done to #TeamTrump”
Indeed. The decades of Republicans plausibly denying that their party was appealing to racism are over. It was a two steps down, one step up lowering of the bar. Trump skipped the step casting opposition an un-American, but after the blow-back, it didn’t take long for sycophants to make sure that step wasn’t missed..
The party’s calculus is there are more net votes to be had in divisiveness. There’s little risk in that, since only a tiny fraction Republicans will do any more than lip service in disagreeing. Demographic change already has the minority Republican party relying on democratic system weaknesses and their gaming of them, and that’s only going to become harder and harder. The majority of Republicans that are not ignorant or racist apparently value their government power more than the lies and racism they’ll need to sustain it.
There have been many Dem false claims of racism over those decades. Anti-Semitic statements by the squad certainly aren’t helping the Democratic party or the country. But at least they’ve been a catalyst in exposing that power is more important to the GOP than lies and racism.
Dems and independents will of course appreciate the initial GOP spin that some remarks of four new Congresswomen, a small minority within their party, are equivalent to the serial appeals to division by of the most popular ever “doesn’t have a racist bone in his body” leader of the party in control of government. It was short-lived though, since the GOP wised up to labeling opposition to the President as unpatriotic. Not unexpected though, since Trump’s campaign was founded on the sitting President not being a real American.
Another week. Another MAGA event.
