Morning Reads – Thursday, August 1, 2019
Good morning & happy Thursday!
Did you know…that today is the 229th anniversary of the completion of the first US Census, which included 17 states and counted just over 3.9 million people. It’s also the 126th anniversary of the patent for shredded wheat.

Puale Deen is still alive (it’s pretty long, I admit I haven’t finished reading it, but it seems funny):

Kemp as a Trumper thought Georgia would receive a waiver to cherry-pick Obamacare, but destroying it and its protections is more important to the GOP.
“A lawsuit winding through the courts could overturn Obamacare and cause millions of people to lose their health insurance, but Senate Republicans say there is nothing to worry about because Congress will come to the rescue.” BuzzFeed interviewed “over a dozen Republican senators,” and most of them said they think the GOP will pass a healthcare bill in an election year if the federal courts strike Obamacare. https://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/paulmcleod/obamacare-lawsuit-2020-election
The GOP after all passed a trillion dollar tax cut mainly for the rich in a non-election year, then hiked spending and is on track to do so again this year, this time sans the sequester. It doesn’t get any harder than that.
John Cornyn, highlighting the GOP’s alternative reality, tweeted “Again and again, Democrats have refused to join Republicans in guaranteeing coverage for pre-existing conditions.”
The GOP has a secret plan, but it’s on a need to know basis. Moscow Mitch McConnell will reveal it and bring it to the floor when we need to know, just like he’ll allow to the floor legislation to tighten election security after it’s proven that the fake news that the Russians interfered in 2016 is itself fake..
I predict the secret plan will allow people to go out of state to buy the same inadequate and over-priced policies they can buy instate.
That’s what’s to be expected from the GOP—Health insurance at the lowest standard allowed by any one state.
The link for the “most visited tourist attraction” sends you to a bloomberg article about abortion and the movie industry.
Interesting discussion yesterday on Fox Business Network.
“China sees Trump as a weak president: Michael Pillsbury”
Is “weak” one of those translation things, i.e. the lack of an English word combining narcissist and dotard.
