Trump thinks Putin so outmaneuvered Obama and US allies with respect to Crimea and Ukraine that Trump Putin ought to be rewarded by readmittance to G7. Since Trump can’t do that alone, he’ll block US military aid to Ukraine instead. It’s what you do for an ally.
