Morning Reads for Friday, September 13, 2019
Make up your own Friday the 13th crap.
- At least they have a sense of humor about it.
- Pay it forward.
- We always knew the Jets were a little different.
- Where will all the millennials hang out now?
- If you like your puddle, you can keep your puddle.
- South Park dudes on cancel culture.
- I hear banjos.
- Wait for it…They come from the Comet Store!
- Reminds me of my NYC trip earlier this year. Sitting in the Uber in the middle of the Garment District around lunch hour, I marveled that every third person walking by Mood was carrying Chick-fil-a bags and large sweet teas. Heh.
- When the water ran gold. You will never watch it rain the same again.

A thing to keep in mind about Wilbur Ross’s role in ordering NOAA to issue a statement supporting Trump’s misrepresenting fact by sharpie, is what Ross did concerning including adding a question on citizenship to the 2020 Census. The Supreme Court basically ruled that Ross contrived the explanation that the DOJ first suggested the question be included, that is was himself and the WH that initiated it. If the NOAA intervention gets to a Court for some reason (which I doubt), Courts will rule against Ross again.

“Our review is deferential, but we are ‘not required to exhibit a naivete from which ordinary citizens are free.'” — Chief Justice John Roberts I’m hopeful courts are beginning to recognize that lying and deception are characteristic of the Trump administration and its supporters, and put doing so in check.
NOAA Chief, Defending Trump on Dorian, Also Tries to Buoy Scientists https://www.nytimes.com/2019/09/10/climate/neil-jacobs-noaa-hurricane-dorian.html
“This administration is committed to the important mission of weather forecasting,” Dr. Jacobs, acting administrator for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, said in remarks at a weather conference here.” “There is no pressure to change the way you communicate or forecast risk in the future.”
“No one’s job is under threat — not mine, not yours. The weather service team has my full support and the support of the department.”
In followup remarks Jacobs said [snark]: “I went to the mat for you, but Trump is more of a scientist and expert than any of you. You’re wrong when Trump says you’re wrong. It’s your scientific integrity and concern for public safety, or your NOAA career. No pressure—It was an easy decision for me.”
Have you heard any notable Republican that isn’t already an outcast take exception to politicization of science? Of course not.
The North Koreans along with everyone else (China, Taliban, Iran, etc) sense Trump’s weakening position. I disapproved of Bolton, but he wasn’t an enabler of Trump narcissism.
Bolton gone is one less obstacle in negotiations. With Trump increasingly in need of something to make himself look good, if only to himself, the world can focus on agreements that do that when negotiating with the Trump administration. Making someone think they look good is an NK specialty, after decades of experience doing it for the Kims.

5 SPLOSTS, almost 20 years of complaining, hand wring, council tempests, 4 city managers and just weird bid processes… the city will have a ground breaking. And a public party and Saturday which folks can complain over paying for…
