Special Election Results- H.D. 71
With less than 10% of the voting public exercising their right to be heard, it appears that Philip Singleton has won the special election for House District 71, scraping by Marcy Westmoreland Sakrison with a 770 vote difference.
The seat was vacated by Rep. David Stover who resigned to spend more time with his family.
Singleton will have to run again in the May primary.

Per the AJC there were 4300 votes cast yesterday versus 5000 in the earlier vote. Singleton’s donations were less than 60 percent of Sakrison’s and he lacked her famous name and big connections, yet he won by 18 points.
Clearly, anti-Ralston sentiment, or more likely anti-pol sentiment, is alive, and the Speaker will continue to face heat over his private practice. Maybe if he stopped doing what he’s been doing he wouldn’t have to worry about the embarrassment of having his enemies beat his friends at the polls.
