The AJC has a column today about Obamacare stabilizing this year. Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar explained that the exchange is better this year since Trump is running it, natch. (That’s today’s reminder to Republicans to think about what they’ll do today to exalt and extol Trump.)
Azar’s explanation is fact within the cult, but everyone else knows that Trump and the GOP did all they could to weaken the exchange in 2017 and 2018. The decline was largely halted after the Dems took the House in 2019, and the exchange is showing that.
GOP efforts to reduce coverage, quality, and affordability are now limited to largely tapped out Executive Orders and the courts. Thank Georgia Attorney Genera Chris Carr, for seeking to have courts strike down pre-existing conditions protection. The GaGOP could pass legislation requiring preconditions be covered in Georgia anytime it wants, but won’t.
