Morning Reads for Tuesday, December 17
Good morning!
- Bipartisan efforts between Representatives Lucy McBath and Buddy Carter aim to improve public health technology.
- Work is underway to revise Georgia’s math standards. (No, this is not an article about the proposed state budget cuts.)
- Max Blau gives us compelling reporting on the state of healthcare in Georgia’s prisons. Here are two of his articles on the issue.
- The Richmond Hill soldier who was killed in the Pensacola base shooting was laid to rest yesterday.
- Georgia Power halves their rate increase request.
- DeKalb Ethics Board II.
- The precedent-setting Atlanta open records case continues.
- Scrunchies are back, in a big way – and there’s a strong case here that they never should have left in the first place. (NB: VSCO rhymes with Cisco, as in, “VSCO girl was a friend of mine…”)

“The cancellation list also doesn’t show racial disparities, according to the AJC’s analysis. Voting rights groups say minorities are often disenfranchised by voting restrictions.Among those who identified their race to state election officials, 31% of those whose registrations could be canceled are black, while 33% of all registered voters are black. About 63% of the cancellation list is made up of white voters, who account for 59% of all registered voters.”
Note: Despite similar headlines, these are two separate articles. One is from this week, and links to a November article. The quote is from the November article.
