This morning some of us had to be dressed up and downtown for a program that started at 7:30am. I’m not bitter, just tired.
To be honest, not a lot of news and fewer than normal tea leaves were provided with the now traditional Chick Fil A chicken biscuits. Governor Kemp mostly recapped successes of the past year, and we’ll hear from him again tomorrow during the State of the State. I expect we’ll hear more about his legislative agenda (and budget guidance) then.
Lt. Governor Duncan announced a new technology task force, to be co-chaired by former Georgia Tech President Bud Peterson and now former Senator Johnny Isakson. We’ll detail that in a separate post.
Speaker Ralston clipped through a few highlights and a couple of priorities, but seemed to make “news” with his statement that he’s not going to hurry the session or commit to an adjournment date until the budget picture, both revenues and likely cuts required, are clearer. He’s been consistent in this point for anyone who has asked him. The tone is beginning to remind me of my Dad when he would respond the second or subsequent times, “Did I stutter?”.
For a more detailed recap of the events, follow my twitter thread starting here. Did I mention I was tired? Will rest up before the State of the State tomorrow.
