Yesterday the House passed HR882, a resolution recognizing and commending President Donald J. Trump and the brave men and women of the United States Armed Forces and intelligence agencies on their successful military operation that neutralized Qasem Soleimani, by a vote of 93-68. The vote was generally along party lines with a glaring exception.
Representative Matt Gurtler (R – Tiger) joined the Democrats in opposing the resolution. NO votes from Rep. Gurtler are not unusual, having voted NO more than 50% of the time in the 2019 session. This vote is particularly strange in that President Trump carried his district with more than 80% of the vote.
Gurtler is being challenged in the primary by retired Superior Court Judge Stan Gunter and social media had field day with the vote as evidenced by these Facebook posts.
I haven’t agreed with a lot of his votes. Definitely doesn’t represent the Conservative values I support. I voted for him twice, but he won’t get my vote again.
This is what he is about, when the state was looking to get cancer policy for firefighters in the state ole Matt Gurtler voted against it.
you have my vote and so does President Trump. Matt Gurtler has always caused division just like Obama if ya lay down with dogs you wake up with fleas
Today, on my radio show Mountain Mornings, I spoke with Representative Gurtler and he said President Trump violated the Constitution by eliminating Soleimani and his principles would not permit him to support the resolution.
