Congressman Doug Collins Is In For Senate
The Daily Caller has confirmed through an aide that Congressman Doug Collins (R-GA-09) is, indeed, running for US Senate against Senator Kelly Loeffler (R-GA):
Republican Georgia Rep. Doug Collins plans to run for the battleground Senate seat in Georgia, the Daily Caller confirmed Monday.
Collins will likely face the newly appointed Republican Georgia Sen. Kelly Loeffler in the election, which will take place in November. Politico first reported the news, saying Collins has even consulted the White House about the planned run for Senate.
There is no word on when an official announcement, but this confirms what we have speculated since Senator Loeffler’s appointment last year.

i mean whatever, the seat isn’t her birthright…but this seems like an unnecessary waste of resources when we have 2 senate seats to defend and a prez race in a state that was closer than it should have been in 2018, and 2016 frankly…
Remember David Gambrell? Appointed officials don’t always have a long shelf life.

well since i wasn’t born yet, no i don’t remember him. but i am aware of him and am aware that in 1972 winning the primary was essentially winning the election…so i don’t think it’s an apples to apples comparison
Actually, Greg Bluestein of the AJC filed before Politico.

Now a bill to replace November’s jungle primary with a primary election in May has passed a House committee. Loeffler may need every bit of the $20M she agreed to.

Bill Torpy’s column in Thursday’s AJC suggests another $10M may be needed, since Loeffler ads to date have been falling flat, and more money may be needed to present Loeffler in her own voice. Embracing Trump in ads from the get-go won’t help her with the demographic she was appointed to appeal to. Ads touting that she’s not a career politician highlight her having purchased incumbency, not earned it (and also highlighting the paradox of an anti-elitist party electing elitists.).
I haven’t formed an opinion about the legislation. Dem support for it primarily for partisan purposes is a negative for me.
Bad decision for Collins unless he has a plan B of hosting some Sunday morning revival on local TV. Stay in the house, possibly rise to at minimum Judiciary chair….go to the senate and become the most junior of junior senators. Why Doug? I guess that’s what career pols do, selfishly seek the next office no matter the consequences.
My guesses are 1) he doesn’t like serving in the minority, 2) he doesn’t think that will change soon, and 3) he thinks he win.
Also, his profile now as Ranking Member is as high as it’s ever been, as Trump’s hyperbolic defender, so even if he loses he’s headed to a cushy Fox News or OANN gig.
What this world needs is more of Doug Collins in our faces.
National Republican Senatorial Committee is not happy.
Executive Director Kevin McLaughlin released the following statement in support of Senator Kelly Loeffler (R-GA):
“The shortsightedness in this decision is stunning. Doug Collins’ selfishness will hurt David Perdue, Kelly Loeffler, and President Trump. Not to mention the people of Georgia who stand to bear the burden of it for years to come. All he has done is put two senate seats, multiple house seats, and Georgia’s 16 electoral votes in play. The NRSC stands firmly behind Sen. Kelly Loeffler and urges anyone who wants to re-elect President Trump, hold the GOP senate majority, and stop socialism to do the same.”
