Maybe not thousands of years ago with Betelgeuse, but hundreds? The latest estimate of distance to Betelgeuse is only 724 LY with a margin of uncertainty of nearly +/- 100 LY. It’s a variable star which makes the parallax calculations less precise.

Republicans are comforted in knowing that Trump has found his Roy Cohn.
It didn’t take long to see why Trump gave Rush Limbaugh the Medal of Freedom and the GOP gave him a standing ovation:
“They’re sitting there and they’re looking at Mayor Pete—a 37-year-old gay guy, mayor of South Bend, loves to kiss his husband on the debate stage. And they’re saying, okay, how’s this going to look, a 37-year-old gay guy kissing his husband onstage next to Mr. Man Donald Trump? What’s going to happen there?”
I guess it’s because Trump wearing makeup, an elaborately styled comb-over, lying about his weight, and having his hand routinely slapped away by his wife in public is so manly.
