Here is the first monday weekly reader of march, where we go in like a lion, and don’t see how leaving like a lamb is even possible.
Former pharmaceutical industry lobbyist turned HHS Secretary Alex Azar should have known to do what Pence is now doing—Always interject that the US is doing so well and the coronavirus is under control because of Trump’s actions. It’s fail-safe, because loyalty to and flattery of Trump are paramount requisites of Trump appointees, and it will be Dems fault if anything ever goes south.
Trump and Don Jr are already out front on the latter. Dad promptly blamed last week’s market drop on the Dems: https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/stocks/trump-tried-blaming-2020-democrats-stock-market-plunge-underway-coronavirus-2020-2-1028946760 It was a blatant lie, but GOP acquiescence of Trump lies is pro forma.
Jr claimed criticism of his dad with respect to coronavirus was politically motivated: https://www.foxnews.com/media/donald-trump-jr-coronavirus-democrats-media-new-level-of-sickness Too bad he doesn’t have standing to make that point since dad tweeted over 100 times to disparage the Obama administration’s handling of Ebola in 2014 ( https://www.vox.com/2020/2/26/21154253/trump-ebola-tweets-coronavirus ) plus had already labeled coronavirus a Dem hoax: https://www.cnbc.com/2020/02/28/trump-says-the-coronavirus-is-the-democrats-new-hoax.html
Not to worry, Pence’s record is that public health is subordinate to his personal partisan and religious views until it’s indisputable that people are being irreversibly harmed. As Trump said when announcing Pence as task force leader, “He has a talent for this sort of thing..”
“The U.S. cannot allow EBOLA infected people back. People that go to far away places to help out are great—but must suffer the consequences!” — Donald J. Trump’s pronouncement of expendability.
Consequences indeed.
