Rep. Collins’ Confusing Campaign Stunt
The campaign team of Rep. Doug Collins, Republican candidate for the United States Senate, has released a press release that has left me scratching my head. The release announces his new campaign strategy of using a parody twitter account to attack Sen. Kelly Loeffler and her use of her private jet.
I hesitated in even posting this hot mess from the campaign, but I think it is important to read it to understand my confusion. I am not sure the last time a sitting Congressman from Georgia, of the same political party, has equated the actions of a sitting Senator to those of “drug dealers and 3rd world despots.” There is also a mention of observing “our nation’s crumbling infrastructure,” which is interesting when you consider that Rep. Collins is part of the government that oversees the infrastructure.
The press release, without any changes or corrections, except to change the tracking links:
Fasten your seatbelts, stow your negative energy and put your seatback in the upright and hilarious position! The Air LoefflAir Twitter feed takes to the skies today!
Following the public exposure of Kelly Loeffler’s $24 million jet, which was registered through a secret process used by drug dealers and 3rd world despots, the need for a satirical look at Senator Loeffler’s posh air travel arrangements became apparent. After painful-to-watch videos of Loeffler uncomfortably trying to pose as a commercial air traveler emerged, the need for this enterprise became downright urgent.
The Air LoefflAir Twitter Feed will chronicle the challenges of Kelly Loeffler and her Uber-rich husband Jeff Sprecher as they walk the fine line between living their posh, private jet lifestyle and pretending to be normal people who are subjected to TSA probing and travel with the unwashed masses.
The feed will post travel tips, observations of our nation’s crumbling infrastructure as seen from a Bombardier CL30 at 40,000 feet, and menu ideas to satisfy the most refined palette.
Most exciting, Air LoefflAir will tweet whenever Kelly’s private jet takes off and lands thus giving reporters and regular folks an opportunity to go on out and meet her (whether she wants them too or not).
So sign up today by following @AirLoefflair on Twitter. Then sit back, have a prosecco and a vegan lasagna, and leave the flying humor to us.
We know you have many options in providing your travel humor and we appreciate you choosing to fly Air LoefflAir.
We would be remiss if we failed to give full credit for this idea to the National Republican Senatorial Committee – Loeffler and Sprecher’s biggest backers – whose “Air Claire” parody account of Missouri Senator Clair McCaskill’s private air travel caused the Show-Me State Democrat so much grief in 2018.

I see you are unfamiliar with the sitting President of the United States of America Donald Trump.
This is not at all confusing.
I just didn’t expect this from Collins. Typically, “outside” organizations do this junk and it does not directly come from a campaign, especially when it deals with candidates within the same party.
” leave the flying humor to us.”
Is that what that is?

Taken as a whole, the impression I get is that Rep. Collins is just super jealous. If he actually spends campaign manpower reporting on this, it will also be a waste of time. Some folks may actually wish they had a jet, too. Also, if he publicizes her appearances, then he is giving constant bumps to her public profile. Ain’t no one gonna go out and hold banners protesting her use of a jet. Well, maybe there will be one here or there…But the risk is that folks who otherwise follow Doug Collins will be like…hmmm..maybe I should go see Loeffler and see what all the fuss is about. And then they wind up liking her. Maybe even because of the glam and bling appeal.
I don’t know that this particular Collins tactic will be successful, but Collins’ general attack strategy is good.
Loeffler added the jet setting adjective to her political debutante affirmative action appointee credentials. Large wealth accumulated in trading platforms and her expressed willingness to spend it on herself to retain the office aren’t likely to be characteristics endearing to “hardworking Georgians”.
Loeffler has no public persona or political experience, little time to develop them, in doing do is burdened by being a woman. The GOP has devoted a lot to developing that burden, and the base is tuned to it.
Loeffler is yet to demonstrate she can value for her money, and she’s got to do it with the backdrop of a frenzied presidential election year. Compare the effectiveness of her ads with Bloomberg’s and his political experience and money that made a dent but couldn’t get it done. Likewise she’s different from wealthy political novice jean jacket Perdue who began with a surname name and wide in-state support network that went with it.
As it stands, hers will be a money, and endorsement campaign. but there’s weakness in the latter without or until she secures POtuS’ endorsement, and there’s no party coattail to ride in November. Come a year from now we’ll know whether she could have generated more heat by simply burning the $20M, or the cost of a Georgia US Senate seat..
