Atlanta Had Fourth-Most Growth From 2010

Here’s a temporary reprieve from Coronapol: the Census Bureau released data on the fastest-growing counties and cities of the last decade.

No Georgia counties were in the top-10 fastest-growing counties. Atlanta is still the ninth-most-populous city with 6,020,364 residents as of July 1, 2019. That’s up from 5,286,718 on April 1, 2010. The extra 733,466 Atlantans are making things cozier and place Atlanta as the fourth-fastest growing city in that time span, behind Phoenix.

Without being able to look at specific county data, it’s clear the non-Metro-Atlanta population trends are worrisome.

Large swaths of Southwest Georgia have seen double-digit percentage drops in population.
