Preparing For Session, House Committee On Reopening Issues Report
Georgia House Speaker David Ralston’s office distributed a report that frames guidelines developed by the House Committee on Reopening in consultation with the Georgia Building Authority, the Georgia Department of Public Health, and others. You can read the full Speaker’s memo here, and you can read the full committee report here.
Some highlights:
Public areas of the capitol will be fogged daily. Restrooms will be sanitized at least four times daily. Private offices will be cleaned daily and fogged two to three times per week.
Social Distancing will be recommended in the capitol with emphasis placed on seating and areas around the elevators. Some seating will be removed, and spaces on floors will be marked for elevator queues.
Access to the Capitol: A lot of changes here, probably best let you read for yourself.
Highlights of the above: The public will be encouraged to wear face coverings, but not required to do so. The public will be limited to two entrances for the capitol and one for CLOB, staff will be further limited from current key card entrances and exits. The entrance to the Capitol on the ground floor facing Liberty Plaza will be “members only”, as will that elevator. The House memo notes specifically this was a request of the Senate.
There are additional pages dedicated to staff working within the capitol that can be accessed by reading the entire memo. Then of course, there’s the usual caveat about all things Covid-policy related: Everything may change. In this case, stay tuned about rope line and gallery access.

Statement from Lt. Governor Geoff Duncan on Reconvening 2020 Session
ATLANTA (May 13, 2020) | Lt. Governor Duncan issued the following statement today on the reconvening of the 2020 legislative session.
“Per the adjournment resolution the Speaker and I must agree on a reconvening date, and that process is ongoing,” said Lt. Governor Geoff Duncan. “We continue to work closely with the Senate Administrative Affairs team to create procedures that allow us to return safely to the Capitol.
I am diligently working to implement a Senate-wide testing program for all Senate members and staff prior to session reconvening. June 15 will give members enough time, after the primary election, to be tested for free at their local health departments, which all Georgians are able to do.”
