Healthy Dose Of Voting Problems In Atlanta
There’s been a steady feed of tweets identifying all kinds of issues at polling places in Atlanta. For me, long lines aren’t necessarily a problem. They can be mitigated but they’re not necessarily problematic. I also know we can’t just go back and forth with equipment and our voting system is probably another bad-luck casualty of Covid-19.
Former mayor Kasim Reed, who should know a thing or two about Atlanta’s election process is rounding up several non-line complaints.
When long lines are the result of literally every machine being down… That’s a problem.
I suppose Rep. Nguyen’s tweet provides some solace(?) that it’s not just Fulton County screwing up.
Then these are just….bizarre.
Of course the solutions are “simple”: move election day to a non-work day and more vote-by-mail.

Statement from Statewide Voting Implementation Manager Gabriel Sterling
ATLANTA –The following is a statement from Statewide Voting Implementation Manager Gabriel Sterling on voting and elections in Georgia:
“So far we have no reports of any actual equipment issues. We do have reports of equipment being delivered to the wrong locations and delivered late. We have reports of poll workers not understanding setup or how to operate voting equipment. While these are unfortunate, they are not issues of the equipment but a function of counties engaging in poor planning, limited training, and falures of leadership. Well over 2,000 precincts are functioning normally throughout the state of Georgia.”
Meanwhile in Savannah… https://www.wtoc.com/2020/06/09/hours-extended-certain-chatham-co-polling-locations-due-issues-this-morning/ It should be noted the district with the least problems (District 4) is a the Islands areas, and a GOP stronghold. They only major GOP issues to vote for in that district is Buddy or the founder of Nine Lines for GA-1 house, and County Chairman (former Mayor of Tybee is the favorited) – plus the judges. I expect a large number of mail-in ballots from that area due to age of voters and the number of professionals working in the area. It tends to have a large absentee/ early voting record already. Pooler area voting in the 7th has become more of an issue for problems as the county grows in that direction.
