Good news… (and we all need some, don’t we?) In addition to being the date in 1866 on which it was formally declared by President Andrew Johnson that the American Civil War was over, today is National Chocolate Pecan Pie Day.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Steve Bannon, an architect of President Donald Trump’s 2016 election victory, has been charged with defrauding Trump supporters in a campaign to help build his signature wall along the U.S.-Mexico border, prosecutors said on Thursday. ..
Bannon was among several people charged with wire fraud in an indictment by federal prosecutors in Manhattan for allegedly defrauding hundreds of thousands of donors through a $25 million crowdfunding campaign called “We Build the Wall,” the Justice Department said.
Prosecutors said Bannon received more than $1 million of that money through an unnamed nonprofit organization. ”

Bannon was arrested by USPS agents while on a boat off the shore of Connecticut.
“announced the unsealing of an indictment charging BRIAN KOLFAGE, STEPHEN BANNON, ANDREW BADOLATO, and TIMOTHY SHEA for their roles in defrauding hundreds of thousands of donors in connection with an online crowdfunding campaign known as “We Build the Wall” that raised more than $25 million. The defendants were arrested this morning.”

So far Trump has lost 8 total senior staff members to the justice system. Never mind all others who were fired or resigned.
“Mr. Kobach, a hard-line ally of President Trump known for his strident stand on immigration, has long advocated a tough border policy.
He is currently an advisory board member of “We Build the Wall Inc.” a nonprofit group that has collected more than $12 million toward the effort. Mr. Kobach says the group has obtained the presidential seal of approval for the private initiative.
President Trump gave the undertaking his “blessing” in a telephone conversation Wednesday night, according to Mr. Kobach. ”

LOCK ‘EM UP!
A liberal democrat attorney files charges to do anything possible to try and bring down Trump’s name. She should of waited until after the election.
Trump is doing well bringing down his own name, he doesn’t need outside help.
Because knowledge of a criminal enterprise would unfairly inform voters?
I understand the concerns, but I think the validity of the move depends on the underlying evidence, and if it’s solid and sufficient evidence (which at least in theory it should be), then the move would be legit. But alas, whether we get to see the evidence is a question. But, esp. to address the concerns abt political implications, I do hope that we get to see the evidence prior to election.
I know just a touch about non-profits and compensation of Directors and such, so will remain curious. Honestly, the very purpose of the organization doesn’t seem to be “charitable” per the law (if they were a 501c3). If it was a 501c4 that limited its assistance to private property owners, that —could— pass muster? From first blush, though, it seems the biggest issue was their advertising and marketing.
Love the irony of Bannon being arrested by Postal Service investigators.
