Morning Reads for Tuesday, September 8

Good morning! Early Tuesdays in September are typically a time for beginnings: the weather teases us with that first whiff of cooler temperatures, the school year has kicked in, fall sports are in full swing, political campaigns are in high gear. At least, that’s usually how it is. This is the Year of Our Lord 2020, though, so.

• Despite the statewide ban on large gatherings of more than 50 people (unless proper 6-feet social distancing requirements are met), GOP candidates are back to their usual indoor fundraisers, while Democrats try new approaches that don’t involve nearly as much potential for community transmission of COVID-19.
• Pediatricians and public health experts urge Georgia parents to keep their kids’ immunizations up-to-date. It’s safe to get them! Really!
• The likelihood of getting students back inside classrooms this semester depends largely on how people comported themselves this long weekend.
• We’ve definitely learned that online government meetings at all levels are a good thing for citizens.
• Public schools in Chatham County offer a “Twilight School” option for working families.
• Gender reveals take a toll. Literally.
• On Sunday, the umps ejected the Washington Nationals GM from his luxury suite at Truist Park. See, the thing about not having fans at games is that everyone, including the umpires, can hear exactly what you are shouting at them.
• There are currently 29 active television and film productions happening in Georgia right now.
