Morning Reads for Election Day 2020
Good morning! You know what to do. And if you have any trouble doing that, here’s the number for the Voter Protection Hotline: 1-888-730-5816.
- Here’s the link to the Georgia Recorder’s live election coverage from across Georgia.
- And here’s why you need to pack your patience: as we learned in the June primary here in Georgia, we will likely not have all the results tonight.
- President Obama visited Georgia yesterday to rally enthusiasm for Vice President Joe Biden.
- Meanwhile, Roger Stone (yeah, that guy) stumped in Georgia for Representative Doug Collins.
- Democratic candidates are often excoriated for high-dollar, out-of-state donations – but in Georgia this election cycle, GOP candidates are singing that same tune.
- Governor Barnes, and others, in this New Yorker piece (written by an Atlantan!) on the decades-long quest to turn Georgia blue.
- The self-proclaimed “Only Trump Voter in Seattle?” Yeah, he voted for Biden.
- This story on how American can reconcile after this election has a quote from the Aspen Institute’s Eric Liu that has stuck with me: “Rugged individualism never raised a barn.”
- Let me tell y’all, I am a person who has read a lot (and by “a lot,” I mean that I went way far down this rabbit hole in my teen years) of firsthand pioneer narratives and diaries. The people who were went it alone? They usually died, alone, often from either a nasty disease that we didn’t yet have a vaccine for (wait a minute…), or from childbirth (wait another minute…), and decidedly did not achieve success in the American west.
- If Trump loses, what will his retirement look like? (Probably not building houses or painting pictures.)
