Today is National Absurdity Day. The good news is that we have been living this every day of 2020 so we’re prepared for whatever comes our way.
Interestingly, the first life insurance policy for a female was issued to a 36-year-old New Jersey woman on this date in 1850.

“How Georgia Turned Blue” still remains to be seen. For the moment, calling Georgia a blue state is a little tale that progressives tell each other to make themselves feel good. Casting aside the possible outcomes of two U. S. Senate races, the larger picture looks a bit different. Both the State Senate and House of Representatives remain firmly in Republican hands. The Governor, Lieutenant Governor, and others are Republican. And, we have our ten-year redistricting coming up, handled by the Republican General Assembly.
Yes, DeKalb County and Fulton County are Democrat strongholds, and it appears that both Gwinnett and Cobb are heading that way, too. But when it came to the Presidential race, almost as many votes were cast for the Republican candidate as were the Democrat. You get to choose how disposed the Libertarian voters were, but to call Georgia a “blue state” is a bit of a reach.
With the population shift from rural counties to the metro areas, I believe in the future Georgia will have more Democrats in state wide office since state-wide popular vote decides those races.
Republicans will have more control of the rural and semi-rural districts and will keep control of the state legislatures.
The key factor to me is how much of the future rural population goes to the metro areas. If there is no improvement in job and internet access a lot of rural counties will continue to lose population (maybe at a faster pace since us boomers are reaching the end).
If you did not see it, here is a good article on how the vote went in Georgia.

“12 Million To Lose Jobless Benefits The Day After Christmas Unless Congress Acts”
The day after Christmas, millions of Americans will lose their jobless benefits, according to a new study. And that could spell financial ruin for many people, like 44-year-old Todd Anderson in the small town of Mackinaw City, Mich.
Anderson’s a single dad with four kids — two of them 5-year-old twins. He lost his income after the pandemic hit in the spring. He did landscape design at resorts that host big weddings, and he says all that’s been shut down.
His $362 a week in unemployment benefits is barely enough to live on. So he’s been selling off his belongings to try to get by — some cabinets he had, a pair of hiking boots. “I sold tools, tools of my trade,” he says. “I sold hoping that I can re-buy them as I get on my feet.”
Millions of people all over the country are living similarly close to the edge.

So what do we do about this?
“A manual recount of nearly 5 million ballots cast in Georgia showed Thursday that Joe Biden won the presidential election, validating initial results.
The recount found that Biden received 12,284 more votes than President Donald Trump.
Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger plans to certify the election by Friday, a deadline set by state law to finalize results.
The hand recount, which also functioned as an audit of the election, mostly aligned with initial machine counts. It also uncovered almost 6,000 ballots in four counties that had been overlooked in the initial tally, resulting in Trump closing his deficit to Biden by 1,400 votes.
Both counts found the same outcome: Thousands more voters in Georgia chose Biden than Trump.”

Ahead of schedule, good going Georgia elections folks!
