If there was ever a doubt of the moral cowardice of today’s conservative, then look no further than this very site. A felony phone call more than 5 days ago, not a peep from a contributing conservative. An attempted overthrow of our government, called for, and incited by, leaders of their very party 2 days ago, not a peep. Any of their opinions going forward must have this light shined upon them for all their remaining days.
Yep. Maybe they went to DC, took selfies, and are hiding out.
What exactly are you expecting them to say? We are not constituents of the writers on this blog. They are accountable for not posting lies, but that’s about it.
Everyone is raw and in shock and trying to figure out how to move forward.
When you find yourself in a hole (which the collective GAGOP is), first thing you do is stop digging…. that includes shutting the fug up.
WHY would they publicly admit to a felony in writing?
Even Lindsey Graham has stated the Capitol riot was wrong, “We could have been killed” he said at one point.
Are you saying none of the Republicans on this website are better than Lindsey Graham? I thought they were.
Lindsey Graham has constituents. Put everything (good and bad) through that filter.
Nope, if their moral fiber is not better than Lindsey Graham, they are a lot worse than I thought.
What am I expecting them to say ?
Maybe some will see if any of this fits.
As a member of a civilized society, I would expect them to say this behavior was wrong.
As a citizen of the greatest country on earth, I would expect them to say this is not how we conduct ourselves in America.
As a Christian, I would expect them to say, this is not the way of the Word.
As a veteran, I would expect them to say, this is not the way we uphold our solemn oath to our country.
As a follower of a political ideology I would expect them to say, this is not the path to settle our differences.
All in fealty to a man that never had a shred of real concern for them, their family, their community and their country. They joyfully went with the con. They got their judges. They got their corporate tax breaks. They got their demonizing of immigrants.
Now they go silent. Now they choose to take the path of the coward.
It won’t change their legacy, as they are now and forever, part and parcel of the Trump legacy. These are people who will become as one when the history is written. And the blood will forever stain their hands.
Yep, any Charlie editorial can now be thrown in trash.
I read a joke in the AJC:
“The joke working its way through Georgia political circles early Wednesday afternoon began like this: “A Black man and a Jewish man walked into a bar.”
Then the punchline: “The bartender said, ‘Hey, senators.’”
The jest came to me via a Jon Ossoff staffer. Only a few hours earlier, her candidate had declared victory over U.S. Sen. David Perdue, giving Democrats control of the Senate for the first time in six years.
I immediately announced my intention to steal this 22-syllable work of art, because that’s what writers do. Then the mob inspired by President Donald Trump forced its way into the U.S. Capitol — and I thought it might be too flippant.
I’ve since reconsidered my reconsideration.”

Sidney Powell Sued by Dominion for $1.3 Billion Over Vote-Fraud Claims

I hope Dominion refuses any offers of settlement. Get her testimony on record.
I expect the Trump campaign will be next (they’ve just received notice a this point, I believe). But among the things that will continue to be needed to be sorted out in such a suit is the extent to which Twitter comments should be attributed to Trump within scope of employment, Trump within scope of candidate/campaign, and Trump the individual. As with all things Trump, business, personal, and public affairs intentionally entangled. But Dominion has the wealth, clout, and motive to sort some of it out. One could argue that sorting is their jam.
MAGA: We back the blue!
Also MAGA: Crush that pigs skull with a fire extinguisher!
GeorgiaPol conservative contributors: We see nothing, nothing, nothing!
Prove me wrong.
I get some of the reluctance, but would appreciate even a simple statement saying that all people, conservatives and Republicans especially, should, as they do, condemn the assault upon the Capitol and the assault upon our statewide elected officials who are simply doing their best job to uphold the law and Constitution. There is an opportunity on these very pages for the party to shape itself going forward, and to self-determine its values. I expect it will be so, but much of it will come after inauguration.
Senators Ted Cruz and Josh Hawley were sending text messages soliciting donations while the Capitol was being invaded.

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-politics/hawley-cruz-email-washington-riot-b1784117.html
I wouldn’t be surprised if there were disciplinary proceedings against some members of Congress. Expulsion is a potential Constitutional remedy, although that requires a super majority.
Those 2, Cruz and Hawley, need to be removed from their senate seat. The other 5 of the seditious 7 need to be censured.
Wanna know who has the POTUS’ ear as much as anyone ?
Dan Bongino.
Know what Dan Bongino is still throwing around on his Parler page after the attempted coup ?

Thanks “Party of Lincoln”.
As long as any Trump or brand of Trump remains in a position or power, or is running to be in positions of power, foreign countries will keep some distance and skepticism with regard to engagement, and hold their criticisms of American over our heads within negotiations and exercise of foreign relationships. The bottom line: The scope of our global influence and power is almost surely significantly diminished for at least 8 more years. Unless– we can double down on some relationships, which will of course require large increases in foreign aid. And budget hawks/isolationists/”America First and Only” crowd may well choose to impair that effort. I hope not, but who knows.
I just realized, where is David Perdue?
Campaign web page gone. Last entry on Twitter was January 3. Nothing in the news.

No concession. Some call Sonny, David may need an intervention.
Well, I did find this, looks like he is going to be Trump Junior.
” In a statement issued early Wednesday morning, Perdue suggested he’s in this for the long haul: This is an “exceptionally close election that will require time and transparency to be certain the results are fair and accurate and the voices of Georgians are heard,” his campaign said. “We will mobilize every available resource and exhaust every legal recourse to ensure all legally cast ballots are counted. We believe in the end, Senator Perdue will be victorious.”

I hear Rudy Giuliani may be available.
“Today is the day American patriots start taking down names and kicking ass” – Mo Brooks (R) Alabama
The crowd then stormed the capitol and killed a police officer. Brooks later blamed Antifa for the violence.
This is the legacy you have left. You own this, all of this.
Not sure if it has a connection to the events 2 days ago, it may just be a run-of-the-mill corruption:
Federal agents descended on multiple Tennessee Republican House members’ homes and state offices on Friday, collecting evidence while executing search warrants.
At least 10 agents from the FBI entered the Cordell Hull legislative office building just before 8 a.m., fanning out to multiple offices carrying empty boxes with them.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Tennessee confirmed the FBI visited the homes of former House Speaker Glen Casada, R-Franklin; Rep. Robin Smith, R-Hixson; Rep. Todd Warner, R-Chapel Hill; and former Casada aide Cade Cothren.
According to multiple people with knowledge of the investigation, agents searched their homes.
The FBI also searched the office of Rep. Kent Calfee, R-Kingston, though House Speaker Cameron Sexton said he understood that Calfee “is not part of the investigation.” Calfee’s legislative assistant, however, has been placed on administrative leave in connection with the inquiry.

Maybe this is the worst day for Republicans since the Nixon era. Chris Carr is supposed to be defending Georgia elections, not overturning them. I want my money back that went to his salary.
The fundraising arm of a group led by Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr called on supporters of President Donald Trump to march to the U.S. Capitol Wednesday to “stop the steal” following the “Save America” rally that preceded the deadly riots in Washington.
A spokeswoman for Carr said the Attorney General ”unequivocally had no knowledge or involvement” in the robocall and “is working diligently to determine how this situation occurred and ensure that it does not happen again.”
The recorded call encouraged Trump supporters to go to the Capitol Wednesday to demand that Congress block certification of the 2020 election, which Joe Biden won, including the results in Georgia.
“At 1 p.m., we will march to the Capitol building and call on Congress to stop the steal,” the robocall said. “We are hoping patriots like you will join us to continue to fight to protect the integrity of our elections.”
The call concludes, “This call is paid for and authorized by the Rule of Law Defense Fund
The Rule of Law Defense Fund is the policy and fundraising arm of the Republican Attorneys General Association, a powerful advocacy group for GOP state attorneys general that Carr chairs. RAGA works to coordinate conservative legal strategies at the state level, while RLFD is charged with electing Republicans to the powerful state-level posts.

Perdue just conceded. Not in the AJC yet.
Now it is:

President Trump and his attorney Rudy Giuliani both mistakenly made calls to Republican Sen. Mike Lee as deadly riots were unfolding at the US Capitol earlier this week, a spokesperson for the senator confirmed to CNN — calls that were intended for another GOP senator the White House was frantically trying to convince to delay the counting of Electoral College votes.
Lee’s spokesperson said the two calls from Trump and his attorney were intended for Sen. Tommy Tuberville, a newly elected Republican from Alabama.
The effort by the White House to get Tuberville to delay certification of the votes provides insight into the President’s thinking and priorities as a mob of his supports lay siege on the iconic building.
As the President worked to convince Tuberville to delay the process, he and other top White House officials did little to check in on Vice President Mike Pence while he and members of his family were inside the Capitol when the rioters stormed it, a source close to the vice president told CNN.
Trump first called the personal cell phone of Lee, a Republican from Utah, shortly after 2 p.m. ET. At that time the senators had been evacuated from the Senate floor and were in a temporary holding room huddling in place, as a pro-Trump mob began breaching the Capitol.

“Reuters photographer Jim Bourg, who was photographing protesters trying to break down doors to the Capitol building, said he heard three older white men in red “Make America Great Again” caps talking about finding Vice President Mike Pence to hang him from a tree as a “traitor.””
OK, so when does this go beyond protestors just invading the Capitol.
After close review of recent Tweets from the
@realDonaldTrump
account and the context around them we have permanently suspended the account due to the risk of further incitement of violence.
Is there a connection between the post-election denial of Donald Trump and Stacey Abrams?
Are you for real?
Trump (he never deserved the title, but until now I used it anyway out of respect for the office he has now shamed), has already succeeded in making himself a pariah. I think we should not overstep to make him a political martyr. It is probably time to test the constitutional waters and leave him to face a judge and jury, not a Congress sharply divided strictly along partisan lines again. Nixon famously said that a president cannot break the law, we need to now test that supposition.
Meanwhile back at the ranch, it would behoove the state Republican Party to purge itself of the rabid Trumpers. David Shafer and those harming the public’s confidence in our election processes when all evidence was to the contrary need to go if they don’t want the purple status becoming more blue. Just an anti-partisan’s opinion.
Worth watching:
I think Trump’s followers will, in 10 days, view him as a martyr regardless. The only question is whether he has opportunity to run again, and therefore try to resurrect himself. Giving him a lifeline to run again is giving a lifeline to all that rotten core. Put a nail in it, bury it. And impeachment and trial by jury not mutually exclusive. All will serve to bury deeper and deeper.
The only unintended consequence I can think of presently is that if Trump Sr. is out for 2024, does someone as bad or worse arise, and appear to be more electable because of no Trump baggage. There will certainly be candidates trying to use and manipulate those who are deceived or ill.
