Morning Reads for Monday, January 11, 2021 | Legislative Day 1
It’s Day 1 of the 2021 Legislative Session in Georgia and the most wonderful time of the year. While most of us would agree that last year made for the strangest session in recent memory, I’m predicting another wild ride that potentially lasts less than the usual 40 days. With lawmakers and staff being tested twice a week, eliminating the usual fanfare in both chambers, and the lack of a page program, the risk of a major Covid outbreak seems significantly smaller.
Here’s to hand sanitizer, masks, and live stream.

A breakdown of the video of the “suitcases full of fraudulent votes” the the Republicans said proved fraud. Gabriel Sterling is a good guy. I’d go fishing with him.
Glad they produced this. I hope it does not just fall upon willfully deaf ears.
This came from someone’s tweet;
For those labeling the Twitter ban of Trump as a free speech issue:
Think of Twitter as a bakery in Colorado and Trump as a gay wedding cake.
I get the idea, but think it’s an analogy that would beg irrelevant whataboutism . For one, denial of cake baking not near the same as aiding and abetting violence. Better just to think of Twitter as a newspaper and the tweets as a Timothy McVeigh manifesto.
Here is the monday morning reader for this week.
Now that our legislature is in session, lets hope our Republican Controlled House and Senate send a resolution to DC saying that they are against wasting anymore tax money on this impeachment nonsense.
I bet they can get it all done for well under the cost of just one year of an ex-President’s pension, and save millions over the costs of an ex-President’s potential lifetime pension benefits.
With how much power the Georgia legislature has over the US Congress, I imagine the US Congress will file that resolution as soon as received.
You have no idea how any of this really works do you ?
I guess it could be worse. You could go into cowardly silence.
One could at least hope that the indomitable importance of the Constitutional and legal issues, not to mention the moral issues, would at least be the primary concerns when weighing whether to impeach.
So I gather you are touting partisanship over patriotism? Trump has tried to suborn our democratic processes even prior to losing the election. Upon the failure of all his desperate measures to override democracy in action he incited a mob to insurrection leading to the deaths of five people. This cannot be swept under the partisan rug or the Republican Party will suffer even more in the future. He is a loser in more ways than one, has been an embarrassment on the world stage even prior to this incident only to be cajoled and coddled by the party. Don’t let your party go down with this demagogue wannabe.
Besides this the current Republican majority in our legislature has some serious state governing to address. Failure to do so properly could put them in the minority given the current climate.
If they are worried about money they should be for impeachment since it takes away Trump’s secret service protection, his pension and all other perks after he is out of office.
I hope the state and City are getting plans in place to protect our state Capitol and the legislators and executives inside. I just heard a report that state Capitols are potentially going to be targeted by same insurrectionist crowd. And GA has certainly been an electoral hotspot,
In Georgia, Republican Gov. Brian Kemp and other officials approved construction of a fence around the Capitol last year after racial injustice protests. Kemp has kept a group of National Guard soldiers on active duty to protect state properties since last summer, when protesters smashed windows and set a fire at state public safety headquarters in Atlanta.
At the Georgia Capitol, a state patrol SWAT team walked the perimeter wearing fatigues and carrying rifles while lawmakers gathered inside for the start of a two-year term.

Hopefully, they will beef up protection as we get closer to the 16th
Federal wildlife officials in Florida are reportedly seeking information on the perpetrators of an attack on a manatee, which apparently had the word “Trump” scraped into its back.
The attack on the animal was reported by the Citrus County Chronicle, which showed a picture of the large aquatic mammal with the name of the US president clearly visible by being etched into its skin.
“The US Fish and Wildlife Service is investigating the harassment of a manatee,” the paper said, adding that the manatee had been videoed in the Blue Hole spring, on the Homosassa River in the state.
