Secretary of State Opens Probe of Former President Trump
A headline from Reuters has flashed across earlier today saying that the Georgia Secretary of State’s office will be launching an investigation of former President Donald Trump and efforts to overturn the election results in Georgia:
“The Secretary of State’s office investigates complaints it receives,” said Walter Jones, a spokesman for the Secretary of State’s office, describing the investigation as “fact finding and administrative.”
“Any further legal efforts will be left to the attorney general,” he said.
There has been discussion on whether President Trump violated state law in his phone call to the Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger on January 2nd. This investigation seems to give some legs to those discussions and leaves the legal effort to the Georgia Attorney General.
I’m sure the former President and allies in the GAGOP will minimize this investigation as a witch hunt and demand the resignation of Republican Secretary of State Raffensperger.
