Attorney Bobby Lee Cook Passes Away At Age 94

Famed Summerville attorney Bobby Lee Cook passed away on Friday at age 94. Cook was a notable defense attorney who had some flair for defending his clients. A notable anecdote from the Rome News-Tribune:

Cook spoke of a murder trial in Scottsboro, Alabama, where Cook’s driver took members of the jury for a ride in his Rolls Royce during a lunch break one day.

His client was acquitted and those jurors came up to Cook after the verdict was read and complemented him on the car and his driver.

It was alleged that Bobby Lee Cook was the inspiration for the fictional attorney Matlock, but the show’s producers have denied that. The AJC has a recount about Cook’s life over on their site, but we wanted to pay our respects to this legendary small town attorney and Georgian.
