It was on this date in 1966 that the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that a poll tax was unconstitutional, but some 55 years later, we’re still arguing over what constitutes a poll tax.

I’m reposting this old article on bald eagles feasting on Georgia free-range chickens. The easy meals are obviously bad for the chickens but can have consequences for the eagles too.

Re: the AJC article on Trump backing Shafer
As a former grassroots GOP activist, this article is a huge eye roll.
I’ve voted Dem in the most recent cycles (because sanity + common sense), but still remain a fiscal conservative and employer.
You’ve got – “No one in Georgia fought harder for me than David! He NEVER gave up!” Trump said in a statement. “He has my Complete and Total Endorsement for re-election.” , which means a hard no from sane people.
And then Shepherd saying – “David Shafer had his shot but lost every key election in Georgia, including Trump’s and both U.S. Senate seats”, when the Cobb dynasty fell under his watch.
Le sigh. If those are the two choices, I am solidly not returning to the GOP.
Trump endorsement in 2020 was pretty much the kiss of death. I guess we shall see if that continues.
But the criticism of Shafer is right. It seems his time is past. To me the entire GOP seems stuck in the past and wants to recreate the past.
The HuffPo article is the best rundown I’ve read on the SK/LG battery dispute, although the idea of Commerce as a suburb of Athens is laughable and an insult to both towns.
South Korean competitors play for blood and each battery mfg would be happy to see the other ground to dust. However, their disputes shouldn’t affect Jackson County workers and American auto producers. I expect Biden will take steps to ease the ITC mandates without completely subverting their autonomy, probably framing it as letting the courts handle the punishment side. But with car makers going full electric we’ll need even more manufacturing capacity by a large factor.
Hello
Is there anybody in there?
Just nod if you can hear me
Is there anyone at home?
Thump… Thump… Is this thing on?
She’s dead Jim.
Yeah, it’s spring, time for rebirth, and this thing is withering away. Missing MRs, few other original posts, minimal discussion of policy and politics, no health updates, no back and forth with contributors ever.
Just an ongoing note to hope Ginny has healed/continues to heal speedily. And that Charlie has fully recovered all of his sensory functions.
