Shafer: GAGOP Will Be Co-Defendant in Election Integrity Law Litigation

Chairman David Shafer announced that the Georgia Republican Party has committed to intervening as a co-defendant in the lawsuit to overturn SB 202 that was signed into law by Governor Brian Kemp. The text of a presser issued by the GAGOP follows:

At a headquarters rally in support of election integrity, Chairman David Shafer announced that the Georgia Republican Party had filed a motion to intervene as a co-defendant in lawsuits filed by left wing groups to overturn the recently enacted Senate Bill 202.

“Our principles are clear: We want to make it easy to vote and hard to cheat,” Shafer said. “We want every lawful vote counted, every unlawful vote rejected and the counting to be done in the open and in accordance with law.”

Shafer said that the motion was filed jointly with the Republican National Committee and praised RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel for her “nationwide commitment to election integrity.”

Shafer said that the intervention was intended to help “give the best possible legal defense to Senate Bill 202 and prevent the Secretary of State from secretly ‘settling’ the lawsuit with the Democrats.”
