Nice to have the MRs early in the morn, thank you.
I just wish there was some more elevated discussion in the articles themselves- perhaps it is a matter of degree, or supply, but as an example, re: article on Antonio Brown getting his car stolen— the nothebee article is focused on a singular angle whose only goal is to trot and strut as if they owned an argument. Which of course they didn’t even come close to. But more to the point, the Fox story upon which it is derived, and is linked within, is actually more useful. It at least gets into some detail, including Brow’s own reactions, and the implications that may have on his platform.
What appears as irony – but is actually barely ironic if at all- is actually a symptom of a complex problem, for which there exists plenty of political middle ground and nuance and topics to discuss.
So, a fair headline would read “Police Reform Candidate Needs Police”.
Now, that, touches upon the crux of the supposed irony, but demonstrates that it is nuanced, and there is ground to discuss and grow. As Brown himself remarked, there are underlying causes of the crime that need to be addressed, probably by schools and social services.
Now, that headline I drafted may or may not be available on the interweb. I doubt it is. But from amongst the available supply of headlines, the notthebee was certainly not the best, and it’s adolescent attempt to own an argument was not only useless, but it sows division and hyper-generalization and,, of course, more uselessness.
So let’s please just pick out the best available articles and sources that further the purpose of this website, which, if memory serves, is to foster discussion and dialogue. Which means immature displays of perspectives are best left out. Thank you.
Thank you. I tried to look at the articles that had been posted and was overwhelmed by the pop-up ads on some of them.
And the article about Kamala Harris wiping her hand is ridiculous.
That article read like a dumb person who ,after acknowledging the pettiness, debates their self on the merits of their pettiness. Sorry, just straight petty. Maybe good for some, but of low standard, and below the standards I expect for this site.
But maybe the issue is that I have expectations and standards..
RE: Wiping hands after shaking them.
In the summer of 1967, I was a switchman for a railroad in Atlanta. The railroad that had originally employed me merged that summer with another railroad, one that had been a rival for many years. After the merger, one of the management types from that railroad came to our yard to meet and greet. He shook hands with everybody, and after each handshake, he unconsciously wiped his hand on the leg of his pants. He may have never noticed what he was doing, but those around him certainly did.
Georgia has never had another Governor like Gene Talmadge. Pictures are from “The Special Collections and Archives, Georgia State University Library.”
Infrequent GAPOL contributor George Chidi has won a top award to help independent writers start “sustainable local news enterprises”.
There are just 12 award winners, scattered across the world, so this is a very big thing, “designed to support a writer’s work for a year while they establish their publication”.
Here’s the announcement: https://blog.substack.com/p/announcing-the-winners-of-substack?token=eyJ1c2VyX2lkIjo5ODExMjg2LCJwb3N0X2lkIjozNzA3MjA1NSwiXyI6ImtjSUdtIiwiaWF0IjoxNjIyNTYxNDk4LCJleHAiOjE2MjI1NjUwOTgsImlzcyI6InB1Yi04NzgwNSIsInN1YiI6InBvc3QtcmVhY3Rpb24ifQ.XYexHdTFo7l95HtrQFvPTdJtBJyZaxc6gE1LMvm9XKU&fbclid=IwAR2Mxszdl5GRjlXN0EKeODXbtgbvnZzZQVH4dMSL69RiSvI0igg2FxFKOWE
If you recall George’s posts here you’ll know he’s a fine writer. Here’s the latest proof, his Memorial Day post: https://theatlantaobjective.substack.com/p/a-memory-on-memorial-day?token=eyJ1c2VyX2lkIjo5ODExMjg2LCJwb3N0X2lkIjozNzAyNzA5NSwiXyI6InpwV25SIiwiaWF0IjoxNjIyNDY4NjAzLCJleHAiOjE2MjI0NzIyMDMsImlzcyI6InB1Yi0yNTYwNzMiLCJzdWIiOiJwb3N0LXJlYWN0aW9uIn0.vNd1aawiTjoZW2lEoGBQB5kcMx9Zy9Sf9RGCc5SsXXU&fbclid=IwAR09HAbpZW3MREv0yvzu_VhdRb8aTHD4_MLuBggYgtrQ3OnkoWAl40EVODI
