Midday Reads for Tuesday, June 8
Hello! I was on vacation last week and let me tell you, these vaccines are a miracle. Hot Vax Summer, indeed.
- Billboard drama in Valdosta! I must admit: when I read that the group suing the billboard company is called “Georgians for the Impeachment of Brian Kemp,” I 100% assumed it was a GOP/kraken-type group that wants to impeach the Governor because he didn’t manage to stop the steal, or whatnot. Well, you know what they say about people who assume things! Turns out, it’s a group of Dems who want to impeach the Governor because he supports SB 202. So much winning!
- Speaking of the Governor, here’s Politico’s fascinating in-depth look at Kemp’s political resilience amidst all the kraken (and whatnot) nonsense.
- P-cards, per diems, and check-signing privileges are rarely, if ever, a good idea: Exhibit A.
- P-cards, per diems, and check-signing privileges are rarely, if ever, a good idea: Exhibit B.
- Former UGA football player and current Texan Herschel Walker missed the GAGOP convention this past weekend. Probably because he was in Texas, where he lives. In Texas. Remember, Walker fan-kids, us having Buc-ee’s in Georgia is not the same as Walker actually living in Georgia. It just means we have access to miles of jerky, immaculate bathrooms, and brisket sammys.
- The Georgia Wildlife Federation supports President Biden’s nomination of Tracy Stone-Manning to head the Bureau of Land Management.
- More details on the latest Plant Vogtle delays.
- HBO has a new reality TV floral design competition, and one of the contestants is Macon born-and-bred.

The Georgia Assembly should pass a bill requiring all agencies local, non-profits, counties, schoolboards, et cet that receive tax dollars to post there check register on their websites. For those that don’t have one, they are not that expensive and could set up a wordpress site like this one and post it once a month. It would not be a burden. If they wanted to go cheap they could just do a post with it on Facebook. The only reason they could be against this is that they are hiding something.
Is this the McCraken or that thing Blue Beard’s pirate has kept talking about? https://www.realclearinvestigations.com/articles/2021/06/08/why_a_judge_has_georgia_vote_fraud_on_his_mind_pristine_biden_ballots_that_look_xeroxed_779795.html
Consider your source:
A Popular Political Site Made a Sharp Right Turn. What Steered It?
Real Clear Politics has been catering to campaign obsessives since 2000. It pitches itself as a “trusted, go-to source” for unbiased polling. The Trump era changed its tone, and funding sources.
“…As the administration lurched from one crisis after another — impeachment, the coronavirus, a lost election the president refuses to concede — Real Clear became one of the most prominent platforms for elevating unverified and reckless stories about the president’s political opponents, through a mix of its own content and articles from across conservative media.
In recent days, as Mr. Trump and his loyalists repeated baseless claims of rampant voter fraud and counting errors, Real Clear Politics gave top billing to stories that reinforced the false narrative that the president could still somehow eke out a win. Headlines on Monday — more than a week after Mr. Biden had clinched the race — included “There’s Good Reason Not To Trust Election Results” and “Trump Attorney Says Results in Several States Will Be Overturned.”
While many of its featured headlines promote articles that have been aggregated from competitors, a separate, donor-funded investigative unit within the Real Clear enterprise has been responsible for some of the most audacious work it has published during the Trump presidency. Sometimes these have been stories that most other news outlets, including some that lean conservative, would not touch because the details were unsubstantiated or publication of them would raise ethical concerns…”
