A Step in the Right Direction

With the primary season reaching a crescendo in Georgia, the political promises to create a better world for everyone have gotten even more outlandish. For $100 you can get a hat that will either make you an astute money manager or send another outsider to Washington. Or vote for me and I will a.) fix

Utopian Legislature and Other Unicorns

Last Friday Representative John Pezold (HD-133) had an interesting op-ed in the Columbus Ledger-Enquirer essentially comparing  the operations of the Georgia Legislature to schoolyard bullies. And while anyone who has witnessed the 40 days sessions would probably admit there is some correlation between school children and legislators, his basic premise seems a bit naïve. Which

Mea Culpa, Mea Culpa, Mea Maxima Culpa

A couple of weeks ago I wrote a post about the fallacy of electing an outsider. Unfortunately I chose to use Senator David Perdue as an example of a business person and outsider who promised change if elected and whom, I proposed, had produced little meaningful legislation in his first 16 months. Well as so

Congressman Collins & Windstream CEO Thomas meet

Windstream CEO Tony Thomas and 9th District Congressman Doug Collins met today in the Congressman’s Gainesville office to discuss solutions to the continuing service problems in Northeast Georgia. The utility comes under federal purview because it accepted federal money from the Connect America Fund and has received substantial federal tax breaks. In a press release

Disrespecting the “Will of the People”

Over the weekend, Sarah Palin announced that she would be campaigning for Paul Ryan’s opponent, Paul Nehlen, in the upcoming Wisconsin GOP Primary election. “His political career is over but for a miracle because he has so disrespected the will of the people, and as the leader of the GOP, the convention, certainly, he is

The State of Civil Discourse

This past Saturday I attended the Freedom Forum in Blairsville to hear from the 9th District Congressional challengers, the 51st District State Senate candidates and others standing for election. I am the grassroots Director for Congressman Doug Collins in Union County and was manning a table with various material from the Collins campaign. Before the

The Fallacy of Electing an Outsider

In 2014 the Georgia GOP Senate primary drew 5 contenders and after a runoff, David Perdue emerged as the nominee and eventual victor over Democrat Michelle Nunn. Much of Senator Perdue’s appeal in the primary, runoff and general elections was his earlier business experience and his “outsider” status. The promise of running government as a

Officers no longer pawns in appropriation negotiations

The House Judiciary Committee marked up and unanimously passed HR 2137 the Federal Law Enforcement Self Defense and Protection Act. The bill’s author Georgia 9th District Congressman Doug Collins said, “During the lapse in funding in 2013, about 1800 federal officers were forced to hand over their government issued firearms in a seemingly arbitrary decision.

Congressman Collins versus Windstream

According to a recent press release from 9th District Congressman Doug Collin’s office, there is continual pressure  on Windstream to follow through on federally funded upgrades to their internet service in Northeast Georgia. Today, Congressman Doug Collins sent a letter to Windstream CEO Tony Thomas to follow up on previous concerns and emphasize the growing
